I think I can shed some light. So I started with the title and that's what had things make sense. Kuramitsuha was one of eight Kami born from the blood of Kagutsuchi when he was killed by his father Izanagi after his birth burned and killed his mother Izanami. Kuramitsuha can mean Dark Water Goddess.
Kuramitsuha was born along side Kuraokami when Kagutsuchi's blood dripped off the hilt and onto Izanagi's fingers. Kuraokami can be written to mean Dark Rain Dragon. Now things are starting to fit together.
Dragons in Eastern Mythology tend to be serpentine in appearance, which if done right can share the appearance of a mermaid. Reference page 4 and you'll see what I mean. Kuraokami was a Shinto deity of rain and snow. This is what "Umi" is talking about at the end.
Essentially she's not a mermaid in the normal mythological sense, but a dragon deity of rain. Kinda like a mermaid of the sky.
Hope that helped shed a little light on this one. I also think on page 6 she is talking about "yobai", the act of "night crawling". You can wikipedia that one. Might have been a translation thing
Read the raws and page 6 didn't make a lot of sense. She uses "Itonami" which can have multiple meanings including Occupation and Sexual Intercourse. Funny thing is it's in katakana, but the page 6 weirdness for me was fixed somewhat
Man, so he actually had sex with a goddess?
This was a pretty intriguing release. So the mermaid from the past wasn't from the sea, but from like the heavens, like the goddess that came to like him?
And that ending...Well, at least she said she'll come back for him? If there's a sequel where that happens I'd definitely love to see it.
This is the chapter I anticipated the most for from this issue of BEAST. I read it already two weeks ago as a scanlation and thought to myself that having the artist's BEAST releases on fakku would be great. Sometimes wishes indeed come true...
