While you might not be wrong, it seems like he might actually pretty obsessed with her. I think if there happened to be a continuation to this story, it would be pretty hilarious if it turned out he'd been infatuated with her all the way back when they were on the student council together but was completely blocked by that one heavily muscled girl in the first chapter.
