That's just one of many unanswered questions raised by this
strange, dream-like story. See Sogeking79's comment under
my own comment elsewhere on this page.
This chapter is what I call a "wet dream scenario." That is, it feels slightly removed from reality, in a distinctly dream-like way that's
difficult to explain. Most hentai scenarios, even if wildly unrealistic,
can be easily explained as an arrangement of familiar tropes.
Plus, this chapter captures the subconscious sexual jealousy a boy
sometimes feels toward his father, which enhances the wet-dream
mood. (In fact, you could plausibly argue that the chapter is dream-
like precisely because it's one of the MC's dreams---conjured up by
his sexual desires & anxieties---and that his father and Sahara have
nothing to do with each other in reality.)
True wet-dream scenarios are rare. For another example,
see Yahiro Pochi's Sister X Lecture (which, interestingly,
involves another kuudere).
I just took the explanation of the ambiguity elements of the story as something unknown outside of what's in the manga. I looked and keep missing the detail that she doesn't need the job but if she does, it is plausible that she's in an escort service looking for a gig, she heard about this maid gig that pays very well, and boom there she is.
There is a lot of dream logic here. Why would she take such a job in high school? Do her parents know what she is actually doing, or do they think she is a maid? Why would a father take a "maid" the same age as his son? If she was a regular maid in his house, did he try and warn her about the extra services? It seemed he didn't know she was there till he saw her face so does that mean she was hired for the sex and does maid work on the side?
@gammenon:
Your "JK Girl" interpretation is certainly plausible---taken in isolation---
but it doesn't account for the overall mood of the story, which is simply strange, in a way best described as "dream-like."
Sahara is almost inhumanly cool. The father's sex life is unusual, to say
the least, and I get the impression (based on no solid evidence) that it's
not a big secret, either, but everyone takes it for granted. Plus, there are
odd little touches like page 6, panel 2 ("Young master, it seems I've been
given the day off.").
As I noted in another comment, you could plausibly argue that the chapter
is dream-like precisely because it's one of the MC's dreams---conjured up
by his sexual desires and anxieties---and that his father and Sahara have
nothing to do with each other in reality.
Yeah, I think she's a sex worker that got the offer to act as a kinky maid. Not saying this type of prostitution is popular (no idea if it is), but I believe H-Connoisseur said a while back a lot of young women (well, girls actually) in Japan often gets involved in rackets where they "befriend" older guys for some extra yen. I took Sahara as being one of them, and I also took the MC's father as being pretty wealthy. As for why the father would be okay with taking on a "servant" as old as his son LOL...That...would not stop many horny old guys, in hentai or in IRL.
@Sogeking79:
Why is a high-class girl like Sahara even working as a maid/sex slave?
What's up with the weirdly flippant ending? The questions are endless.
Your comment is excellent. You clearly understand what I'm struggling
to explain. This story seems to be realistic, but (as you say) once you
pause to take a deeper look, you find yourself tumbling down a rabbit
hole of unanswered questions. The "realism" is only a thin veneer.
As I see it, the key factor in a "dream scenario" is imperturbability. No matter
how strange the story is, the characters take everything in stride, as if nothing
is out of the ordinary. They question nothing. We see this attitude very clearly
in Karma Tatsuro's quirky little tales. No matter how odd the scenario may be,
his characters blithely take everything in stride. Dream logic rules all.
This chapter hinges on Sahara's kuudere personality. She serenely accepts
her bizarre situation in a way that's downright unearthly. Her attitude greatly
enhances the dream-mood of the story.
So I don't think it's a coincidence that Sister X Lecture---another dream
scenario---also features a kuudere who coolly accepts a strange sexual
role.
