With such a cover and the words "mind control" in the title I was pretty sure that this chapter would be the mother of NTR...
Am I a jerk because I like what he did with his powers?
I mean, if you think about it, the protagonist is basically a rapist. It doesn't make much sense to choose whether to like or dislike that because the girl is single or not - it's wrong to rape girls with or without boyfriends after all.
I don't simply like the story because the girl is single (although this is a plus) or because I think it is right what he did (I know that was wrong). I like the story because I think it shows quite well that people would abuse powers if they had any and every reader would have done the same. Most people will say "No, I would use my powers to do good" but that's bullshit. You would abuse them, I would abuse them, most likely every reader of this story would abuse them. Men would abuse them. Women would abuse them. Maybe one person in a million wouldn't. But only maybe. And in regard what he could have done, he was pretty tame. He manipulated some poeple, but his main goal was to manipulate the girl he loves into thinking that she loves him too. And we only have one chapter of this, it still could turn out that the girl can't be manipulated by him and faked it in order to be together with him because she secretly is in love with him but is afraid of what her friends would think (or he could do a Killgrave and begin to kill people). And if we begin to argue about rape: have in mind that a lot of stories in your and mine favorites could be described as rape stories as one partner is relucant to do something, the other one does it nontheless and we like such stories because in the end both enjoy it and we hide behind the belief that this makes the forced act acceptable. (Damn, I better stop writing, I already sound like a stereotipic feminist - and I'm a guy...)
@GODSHandOnEarth I must respectfully disagree. Power doesn't corrupt. That's shifting the blame from the true source. Power merely exposes the corruption withen us, by allowing us to act upon the innate corruption.
Mind control = Love control, eh?
Honestly, I expected him to do more, what with the insults he endures, like raping the entire class of girls, or something. I'm kind of surprised he only limited it to the girl he liked.
I mean, most Hentai Protagonists I think of would probably do so, anyway. If there ever is a sequel I'm interested in seeing how it would go.
Ya, the pattern the editors seem to follow is that consent doesn't matter, the girl just has to not object by the end. Â I mean, 'rape' is in the descriotion so how can it not get tagged correctly!
