Not the kind of story I was expecting given the previous manga. Pretty alright though as far as prostitution stories go, hopefully next time she dumps her boyfriend so I can feel less bad reading it .

because it's bad international PR. They don't want Japan to become

I see, this looks like a pretty interesting thing to look into for a night or two. On a more serious note, I do hope it’s something that’s looked into as far as possible mental health effects it might have on girls (esp those on the younger side.) Either way this was way more deep a conversation than I was expecting on a hentai site lol

That’s a pretty interesting way to go about resolving the internal conflict. My personal examples of compartmentalisation often come from places of stress and trauma of the past though I don’t think it’s ever completely helped remove that nagging feeling go away of what I did or, as I’m often guilty of, not doing. I can only imagine how the girls feel inside trying to resolve something even more complex with sex work though this comes from a completely western perspective on the issue and what I can’t rationalise, they might be able to with a lot more ease and peace of mind. But, I don’t think I’d be going on a limb saying that the general view, especially from parents, might not be too different from us on the other side (might be completely wrong though).

In the original Japanese, does Aika speak with a Tohoku accent
or a Kyushu accent? Or something else?
In the "Club 9" manga by Makoto Kobayashi, the lead character
is a good-hearted country girl from the Tohoku region of Honshu,
and she speaks with a Southern drawl in the English translation.

Not a translator but when I received the script for this to check, they left a note that mentioned "this girl speaks with a thick Fukuoka dialect", so I guess that. If the translator wants to further comment themselves then they can.

"EK" stands for enjo-kÅsai. It refers to the "practice of older men giving
money and/or luxury gifts to attractive young women for sexual favors.

The chapter title means this is the first time Aika has engaged in an act
of prostitution. By some estimates, 10 percent of Japanese schoolgirls
(age 13-18) have engaged in the "JK (joshi kÅsei) business" at least once.
I have seen other estimates as high as 25 percent.

In most cases, the girls are motivated, not by poverty or drug addiction,
but by simple greed & consumerism. For example, a girl who wants a new
laptop or a designer backpack (in order to keep up with her classmates)
might decide to raise some quick cash by renting herself out to an older
man. In Aika's case, she wants to buy a special birthday present for her
boyfriend (which is rather touching). She doesn't see her EK transaction
as cheating, because she's doing it entirely for Yakkun's sake.
Most EK hook-ups are probably one-time transactions, never to be repeated,
but Aika might be tempted to contact "Onii-shan" again, because she earned
$1000 (page 3, panel 2) and she had a pretty good time besides.

them sexually attractive. They're exposed to hentai at an early age. Some girls
start collecting sex toys as soon as they hit puberty. So, if you combine cynical
sexual awareness with peer pressure and rampant consumerism, it's no wonder
so many Japanese schoolgirls dabble in prostitution. (And, by all accounts, they
usually drive a hard bargain, which I find amusing.)
Also, rape, murder, and other violent crimes are very rare in Japan, so the girls
feel reasonably safe when they make a date with a generous stranger.

EDIT: You mentioned that Japanese women are exposed more but in my opinion I think all women in general are exposed to sexual stuff. Hell, all kids are exposed to this type of stuff because of the internet. I highly doubt that feeling safe has anything to do with prostitution over there. Must suck for boys over there. If I was a boy and found out a girl I liked was prostituting then I would become jaded and not interested in them
