Fun tidbit (and SPOILER if you haven't read the chapter yet): The top of the TV on page 2 actually has another news story about a train accident with several casualties, although the virus update is clearly the main headline at the moment. I only know about this because I had to look at the uncropped source image to be able to read it in full, so this piece of foreshadowing is fairly well-hidden in both the original and our translated version!
Interesting plot twist definitely didn’t see it coming, thought it was another girlfriend being really horny for boyfriend basic stuff, but it was deeper than that
Like all chapters with a twist ending, this one rewards a second reading.
When Keito describes himself as being "in a world deprived of all forms
of joy" (page 4, panel 4), that remark becomes quite poignant the 2nd
time you read it, for it suggests Keito has been consigned to some form
of dull, colorless Purgatory, with none of the happiness associated with
the land of the living.
Cultural Note: Higan (page 20, panel 5) is a Buddhist holiday celebrated only in Japan.
The word is a reference to the World of the Dead on the far shore of the
Sanzu River (which is equivalent to the River Styx in Greek mythology). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Higan
What a girlfriend. Knows a shop keeper/witch that can send souls back and forth from the land of the dead. So uses their ability to visit the dead boyfriend, who looks like he's in some type of purgatory, to sooth his soul.
My question is, how can you be dead and a lucky bastard all at the same time?
Either this is some story of a love that crosses the boundaries between the living and the dead or its a story about why you really shouldn't take drugs from strangers.
sets up the twist ending. It's very cleverly done.
