What's funny is that if you know anything about Wing Chun (Bruce Lee's initial martial art), it focuses heavily on attacking and defending the centerline of the body, which happens to be where boobies are (or cleavage, anyway). Also, one of the traditional origin stories of Wing Chun allege that it was created by a woman... perhaps to protect her own boobies. The rabbit hole can get deep.
Fortunately, Teppei and Shizuka managed to get around their seeming "failure to communicate", that could have threatened to break up their budding relationship. And it would have been a travesty for Teppei to let such a Sexy Onee-San like Shizuka get away from him.
Good for him that he "manned up", when crunch time came along.
It's a spectrum. I'd say Shizuka is just cool enough to qualify, with a focus on poise and self-possession and a bit less of the deadpan stoicism that borders on robotic.
@Galder:
This isn't a competitive debate. We're simply threshing out
the meaning of a foreign word. Just because you've been
"outvoted," that doesn't necessarily mean you're "wrong."
Democracy is unreliable.
that's the thing. to me she seems nothing but socially awkward. be it her inability to talk to the mc when she wants to, or her not rebuking the guys trying to hit on her. add to that her self-depreciating behaviour and she's not at all cool and confident. but these are the traits i expect of a kuudere. but like i said to the other guy, it's two opinions vs one. so i guess i'm wrong lol
Kuudere aren't supposed to be cruel, callous, or cold-hearted.
They're cool, poised, deadpan, dignified, and self-possessed.
In extreme cases, they can seem almost robotic. Shizuka is a
very typical kuudere. For more good examples, see:
what i've known as kuudere so far was people that keep conversations short and prefer to be by themselves. shizuka just seems socially awkward since she wanted to talk to the mc, but couldn't strike up a convo herself. this and her self-depreciating behaviour (wondering if she's good enough for the mc) really contrast with the cool, confident and independent image of a kuudere. but i seem to be in a minority since the other guy also classifies her as a kuudere.
@Galder:
If Shizuka is "friendly but expressionless," that's practically
the definition of kuudere. "Aloofness" is a quality we would
expect from a haughty ojousama.
Please don't misunderstand. I'm not looking for an
unfriendly argument; I'm just a literary geek who's
obsessed with the proper use of words.
nobody said anything about cruel or callous. rather they're supposed to be aloof and don't warm up to someone that easy. shizuka here converses in a friendly manner just fine. she's just totally expressionless when doing so. that's what made me wonder if kuudere really fits.
Boobies.
