If the authorities investigate the disappearance (which is by no means certain),
they'll probably discover the priest was a false prophet, and conclude he simply
packed up and left town with no warning, the way scam-artists often do.

If they suspect foul play, where would they even begin searching for the body in
the mountains? That would take a lot of time, trouble, and money. Would they be
willing to make that kind of investment for the sake of a sleazoid the community
is better off without?

Even if they find the body, would they necessarily connect the murder with Hikaru?
No. All things considered, Hikaru's in the clear. Murders do go unsolved, you know,
and sometimes no one (except the killer) even realizes a murder has occurred.

No, you do not spare any more effort or emotion than necessary when dealing with monsters like that guy and crucifixion is more effort than he is worth. Keep the effort to a minimum when the end result is still the same.
