From the glimpse we got of things from Ume's perspective in volume 5, it is clear that -- despite the facade of coolheaded mystery she tends to maintain in her relationship with Chidori — on the inside, Ume is sincerely in love with her. But when we return to Chidori's perspective, it seems that she feels just as uncertain as ever. How can she define her feelings towards Ume when most of their lives are so separate and unknowable to one another? As it turns out, though, Chidori's internal struggle may be just what ends up bringing the two closer on a trip to try out the steamy waters of a wintery citrus bath.
