Anime/Manga Forum Changes

I will be making more changes to the forums to make them more organized and less confusing. Hopefully this will result in more/better posts.

My current idea is to get rid of the Anime and Manga General Discussion.

I would then:

Turn the Specific Anime Series forum into Anime General Discussion
Turn Specific Manga Series into Manga General Discussion
Turn Episode Discussion into Specific Episode Discussion
Turn Chapter Discussion into Specific Chapter Discussion

I feel that this would make things a lot less confusing for new users. It would also get rid of the rule of having one topic per anime or manga. I feel that rule was always more trouble than it was worth considering it results in long dead topics being revived and the users that were part of the discussion being long gone.

And I'll move all topics from Anime and Manga General Discussion into the appropriate categories.

Sounds like a good plan to me. I rarely feel like discussing anime and manga on here, but I feel like I might be more inclined if it were more streamlined.

I'm confused on how it will get rid of the rule of one topic per anime won't each anime still only have one topic about it making another one would just be wasted space. Even if the topic is long dead making a new one is just doing the same thing just with out any feedback to the poster at all, at least in dead threads there are at least a few posts for them to read.

I also feel that a lot of threads in General Discussion apply to both anime and manga, and that this will only make placing some of the threads even harder. I'm already quite confused on what exactly goes in these new sections, so there will be anime threads about specific series along with threads about anime in general. Its just my opinion but it feels though this would only make things more confusing.

Though I'm totally for renaming General Discussion it seems to be confusing people something like Anime and Manga General Discussion would stem some confusion.

[Edit] Oh how about cleaning up Specific Anime Series would be nice what I'm talking about is moving the movies to their own section; like a Anime Movies Section as it is confusing at least to me.

Sounds pretty good to me, Less confusion and Less "Wrong forum" posts.

It doesn't matter what they are named, people will still have posts in the wrong area, and the people who don't frequently put posts in wrong places aren't really confused by the current names of these forums, so I don't really see the point. I guess there will be some new users this will be easier for, and putting specific anime/manga series into a general discussion form might open up a few more topics...although I thought that's what 'general discussion' was already for. It's a good way to order things around, but this tiny cosmetic change isn't going to affect much.

This is correct. Also, I think that if you don't restrict the threads, one thread could pop up, the next day another one of the same anime, and so forth, meaning that other threads will eventually die and be forgotten, exactly like how it is now. If someone wishes to continue discussion, simply posting in the original thread will bump it back up and thus anyone who sees it and wants to discuss, will. Lol, but I'm extremely biased in opinion right now, cause, well...I'm just about done completely re-doing the anime masterlist in the way hermit suggested which was tiring and gave me cramps :L

Edit: Oh yes, I do realise the effort of the mods and admins for needing to take care of every duplicate topic, as hermit pointed out to me. I always appreciate what you guys do and don't like causing trouble. I decided to do what hermit said and pm the thread starter so they can delete the threads, but yeah, still biased here.

I agree with gin, dividing general discussions into manga and anime will risks having duplicate threads in the two different sections. If you want to do that that means admins would have to work harder to maintain the forums.

One topic per series is a good thing, and has no influence on the fact that Anime/Manga Series forums have been pretty much dead for some time.
And these changes of sections, well... I think the current system would work good, with General Discussion renamed.
Seeing an always welcome "who would win" thread along with series discussions just isn't a pleasant thought. Might work better than now in fact, but I can't imagine that.

messing with the one topic per anime or manga seems a bit risky, since users could start several threads because they were to lazy to even look for an active thread.

Basically your saying yes to the idea but also saying No. One side is slightly heavier than the other. A simple "Its a good idea" would have been perfect instead of... well what you wrote.

I agree with renaming the sections. It's much more straightforward. I disagree that it would (nor do I think it should) get rid of the "one thead per anime/manga" rule. A thread is a center of focus for discussion, it goes without saying that communication would be broken up if multiple threads existed. It's one thing if multiple topics of an anime/manga existed as multiple threads, but very, very, few anime/manga have enough to talk about as is, even fewer would benefit from segmenting the different discussions. Also, reviving the old threads is fine since it allows newer people to build upon the ideas presented earlier as well as present their own ideas.

Ok, after getting rid of my previous bias, this is exactly how I feel. I actually agree with the changing of the sections but the fact still remains that the one thread per anime/manga rule is still ideal for proper discussion, and ZeroOBK nailed what I was thinking in my head.

I kinda like how it is now to be honest, you got the silly threads in the General Discussion and you got the better threads in the others.

I think it's more convenient as they are now, actually. If I want to make a thread about a new anime, I put it in Specific Anime Series (and same with a manga series). If I want to discuss a series, I can just look at the Masterlist in either section and see if a thread about it already exists. And if I want to make a thread about anime and manga in general, I make it in General Discussion. I think that's where the big problem lies, honestly - discussing things that deal with both anime and manga. If I wanted to talk about honorifics in translations in anime and manga, would I need to make two threads, one in the anime section and one in the manga section? Would I need to make two threads to talk about fanservice, one for fanservice in anime and one for fanservice in manga?

Also, I feel like I'm missing something concerning the changes of Episode and Chapter Discussion. Would those be nothing but name changes, to let people know that the sections are for discussing specific episodes/chapters and not arcs or whatever? Because I've never seen a person make an inappropriate thread in either section; every thread has been about a single episode or chapter. (Except for a very small number of threads for currently-airing series, I guess to avoid making a new thread each week.)
