If you read manga, don't watch the anime with the strikes. Read their mangas
Actually watching the anime of HSD Kenichi is not so bad. It still follows the manga and stops after a certain arc. Of course if you want more from the story then you probably have to read the manga after finishing the anime.

I wouldn't even know where to start there because this has what seems like hundreds of different series.
I would say start with Wing. That was my first gundam ever. And you can probably watch the others like Seed, G gundam, or Gundam 00 afer that.
Well your gonna have to like mecha to finish watching the original Gundam story. I think the original gundam story has like 7 connecting series. I can never get myself to watch the original story..
