Best character (based on personality not ability)

Simply put choose a male and female character you feel is the best all around based entirely upon personality rather than abilities or accomplishments. Briefly justify your choice.

Best male: Naota (FLCL) his temperment and cool attitude make him an ideal character for a larger-than-life role because it seems that for the most part he doesn't care. His conflicting views of loyalty to his brother and his feelings for Mamimi (probably misspelled) makes for a good internal conflict and his relationship with his father makes him have the "straight-man" persona of comedy pairs. Overall he's a well crafted character.

Best female: Asuka Langley Soryu (Neon Genesis Evangelion) why? She perfect portrays conflicting feelings of superiority and inadequacy. She's a constantly unstable yet constantly relatable character. Her short temper and boastful nature make her seem cute in a tsundere way and she has a constant habit of making her emotions visible yet transparent (ie, she hides them but makes them known, Shinji is just an idiot)

I'll throw in 2 males mainly because i've never really met the perfect female.



He taught me having a dream doesn't mean that it has to be big, One simply has to enjoy pursuing it. I envy that he's able to enjoy the simple pleasures in life which i haven't being able to. The thing i wish to be able to learn from him is debility to be selfish, to not take oneself as the priority , that makes him one of the best males of the highest quality.




From a loser at the bottom of the well to a soaring eagle ruling the skies. I often question myself why can't i ever be so focus towards a goal like Keitaro is, the self debate eventually revolves around the center that i simply haven't found a goal in life. Responsibilities, i have but never a goal.

To find route to the finishing line and tirelessly pursue it. I like him as a person alot.

Kyon(The Haruhi Suzumiya Series)
There is just something about his cynicism and scarcasim that I just love. He really holds up basically the whole story and just grunts and goes along with it. He really just seems like a normal guy, which in anime means he stands out from the rest of the over muscular guys who are about the size of a small car and have the personality of a brick.

Holo(Spice & Wolf)
Just the right balance of tsundere, moe, and humor, none of it too present in her all just right and at the perfect moment. Also if you have a thing for catgirls, got you covered there too, she just really, again, feels like a real person, which makes her stand out. I'm a big Tsun fan but most of them seem a little to violent, Holo is just right with a little teasing and a slap on the head when you deserve it, also she can be damn cute when she wants to, AHHH I just love her.

You see, I was thinking Kyon myself, but when I thought about it he didn't seem substantial as a character, he was just an ordinary guy with a bit more sarcasm than most. Don't get me wrong, Kyon is awesome, I'm just saying why I didn't choose him.

I can understand where you're coming from, however he really shined in The Dissappearence of Haruhi Suzumiya, it really was his crowning moment and really devloped him as a character, that dispite all his cynicism, and complaining, he really does like Haruhi.

agreed. I'm not taking my selections back, but you've got an excellent point and I do rather like Kyon. As for Holo, I would've liked to have seen more of her, but she's also up there on my list.

For the male, I choose Kyon. As for the reason, please refer to MrShadowzs post. And to add to it, Kyon keeps his cool most of the time. He's a smart guy that uses a different variety of words and is always using simile and metaphors in ways that I would never even think about using.

As for the female, that I can't answer. There are many female characters out there that are good, but my love for tsunderes will cloud my thoughts and I'll just end up choosing a female tsundere that does not have a great personality. So, I shall void my female choice. (Hoping that I used the correct word and meaning)

Hanataro from Bleach. 'Nuff said there.

Kallen from Code Geass
She is constantly battling herself on school, her meek and timid side, and on the rebellion she is quite the tom-boy. When she kinds out that Lelouch is Zero and continues to serve the rebellion because of the cause it supports, it shows a lot of gall. I feel like she would do anything for Japan.

Byakuya Kuchiki (Bleach) He is cool under pressure and his personality lets you know that he is better than you in every possible way. He has the skill the actually back up is incredible arrogance, and he doesn't throw it in your face he just subtlety makes you aware of the difference in your powers.
Female
Hinata Hyuuga (Naruto) I pretty much like her just because she is so shy and that she has the determination to try and keep trying because she wants to be like Naruto and is always watching him from a close distance.

Male: Shikamaru Nara (Naruto)
DGAFs hard every day and still manages to kick ass when he wants.

Female: C.C. (Code Geass)
Her love of pizza is just too funny.

Yes, I am speaking through just personality. Ol' Scarecrow's always-aloof and deadpan perfectly contrasts his serious-when-needed attitude and caring side to his friends and teammates. Plus, add in the little perversion he has, and you've got a perfect bro, even if you don't account for all his extraordinary skills.

Ignoring the implications of the genre,

He's an extremely compassionate, genuinely concerned person. He goes out of his way to ensure his students aren't suffering in silence. If he has the slightest reason to believe someone is in trouble, he does everything in his power to ensure their safety and wellbeing. He cares about what they want, and what they need. Most importantly... he doesn't stifle Rin's voice. Kids are often programmed to yield to the adults in their lives... handing over any and all free thought. He listens. He really.. really listens.

Aki Kokonoe, from Kodomo No Jikan.

She loved her daughter so much, she died for her.

She weighed it all. She made a decision based on what was genuinely best for her child.
