You actually believe Kubo would bother with coming up with a reason (and NAKAMAH (Inoue) is NOT a reason kids)? No need to do sir, this is Bleach.
The point is to (at least) not do this kind of power up again.

I think the blanket explanation for Ichigo's power-ups is the fact that he has a ton of spirit power. That was one of the first things said in the series, that Ichigo had a massive amount of power that he doesn't know how to properly use.
It's a shitty explanation, but I think it's enough to keep every single person that reads Bleach from saying that there's a huge plot hole and is what Kubo will use to explain why Ichigo keeps getting stronger without any training.

I know about this extensive amount of spirit power, but seriously... turning into a complete hollow and back just because of spirit power, and noone even wonders about it? That is a plot hole, sorry.
Getting a new power, higher speed or learning some ability is well excusable by spirit power, but the fight with Ulquiorra is not.

Trust me, I know. You're preaching to the choir. There may be some explanation given later on for what the hell happened in that fight, but I'm pretty sure it's going to be covered in the "he-has-hidden-power" shit. One more reason to be disappointed by Bleach.

Wouldn't it be great if at the end of the series, they find a guy with even more potential, and completely ditch Ichigo? (and then the end credits roll)

Ah this is a pretty good sum up of how I felt about this chapter. I mean Gin was in it there was epic pwnege of some of the shows pussies. More Importantly it was proven that they are all bitches compared to Azien. Sure it was repetitive with the first line being the same as the last but still.
