Hm...god I've been so scatter brained with school lately that I haven't a clue what it would be for. ^^;
Anyways, you'll just have to wait for a little while longer since I had gave it to someone whom I felt deserves it a bit more. Well, it shouldn't really be that hard to locate a previous post which you believe deserves some acknowledgment.
I simply enjoy rewarding such users as yourself who puts much effort into expressing themselves, esp when providing me with different views to look at to contemplate and discuss about. 8)

Anyways, back on to the discussion of episode 12. Wow...just wow. It figures that Alphard's whole motive for killing Siam and for hurting Maria is to stur up Canann's despair, her true power.
Well, Canaan IS the embodiment of DESPAIR. One of those super soldiers that Siam once mentioned to Alphard back when she looked so hellishly cute! :D So it's not exactly to "stir up" Canaan's despair but to trigger her full potential or capabilities by threatening to take her light away, who is now Maria.

Naturally, Alphard would want to fight Canaan at that stage so that she could have a suitable fighting opponent. And, of course, so that she can gain some good battle data for future experiments on getting the powers for herself. She wants that name, that title, badly.
Again, I beg to differ; no surprise. First off, it's not exactly Canaan whom she wants to fight and finish off but her very own DESPAIR, which averted Siam's eyes away from her. Alphard apparently may have likely desired but couldn't quite become like that for Siam, whom she most probably adored (as a father perhaps) and thus Canaan appeared, stole him away from her, and the rest was history.
She's also given up on that name btw, in case you've already forgotten the previous episode when she had clearly stated that SHE IS
ALPHARD ALSHUA. One more reason as to why I'm thinking that she's merely seeking to cut ties to everything she's ever gotten involved with in this whole CANAAN project.
This quite disappointed look on her face upon learning that she's merely in the "boundary" tells me just that.
Which is also why she rather kept on emphasizing that if only Canaan never existed/appeared, Siam/Maria never would have died/to die.
I believe Alphard's motive in doing so is not to set some sort of stage for one suitable opponent, nor to gather data for past and future experiments that she already decided to dispose off. I'm sure that she's long accepted that she cannot become that of a monster/despair Canaan really is. After she's become all that Siam had wished for, conquered her past and fed on hatred, etc, she probably only wanted to test herself to see how she'd fare in spite of that despair she once saw. Or perhaps, all that she had really wanted was to see if that Canaan whom Siam replaced her with is really all that super.

And, Alphard was right. Siam could have lived if Canaan wasn't there. Alphard would have had no reason to kill him without her there. Canaan needed to see him die or else the despair would have never come out, and we are now getting into that same kind of situation with Maria.
It was quite different with Siam's case. I think it was more of feeding from her hatred that she had killed him, and quickly taking off right after via helli, if you do recall the flashback at around episode 6(?), would imply that. I've finally come to accept your previous theory about jealousy and here you are making things even more complicated with only an episode remaining.

And god...I hope that she doesn't die, but my gut instinct is telling me that it's going to happen. The next episode may be entitled: "Hope", but I haven't a drop left at this point. I was enjoying all that sweet, lovely dovey talk between the two, too!
You must be very aware that just by saying so, you'd get much opposition from me, something like "I certainly hope she dies" or something along those lines, blah blah blah. I want Canaan to wither away in sorrow in case she survives! Also, I believe the last episode was entitled as "The Land of Hope" and not "Hope" alone; referring to the meaning behind the name which is Canaan. Well, I don't have much of an idea either since I'm still considering that Alphard shall live on to deal with a few more unfinished businesses. There are also Natsume and Mino's roles left to consider...

The part with Canaan seeing those she "killed" right before her eyes was a little confusing to me. Alphard and her men killed those people, (besides the one woman), right? Or did Canaan do all that and she didn't realize it?
The most logical approach would be Canaan reaching the scene with all of those dead bodies lying all over the place. There's no point in thinking much about it since seeing all of those dead people already didn't make much sense to begin with. Trust me, I can guarantee that Canaan never shot anyone there (if she did, her gun should have at least recoiled a bit). That hallucination was perhaps caused by her great fear or trauma, particularly since the situation was quite a bit similar during that time when she had lost her first light, riding in a train.

Siam, (in Canann's sub conscious, of course), was right, however. Canaan does need to rely less on her powers, and take a look at reality. Maybe if she did that a bit sooner, Maria would be alright. Unfortunately...she might be seeing yet another ghost attached to her name. I wonder if losing Maria would force Canaan to give up her name?[/spoil]
What she's to be called then if she'd give up that name? Despair? By losing Maria, she'd not only lose her name, she might even lose her very being and ultimately her life (I'd be very delighted and so does mai Liang <3 in heaven). Well, I wonder what's your basis for bringing this up all of a sudden. It's not like anyone could just decide to drop/lose their name in any given time or place that they want to..

Also, the music in this episode was top-notch. I felt it added some additional emotions to several scenes, especially the scene with Canaan racing through the train cars.
I didn't quite notice anything special about it to be honest more or less because I was barely hanging on the edge of my seat during that sequence! Though if there's one piece of composition which really and always have stood out, it's gotta be Canaan's/Alphard's/Siam's theme; "the hum". -I've already memorized it in fact. :)
@Lamz & Hiro: I'd try to respond to both of your posts later.
PS: Well, since we're here, pretty much just waiting for the finale, I wanna use this opportunity to ask you guys: Who are the characters whom "you believe" will make it through the very end of this series breathing still? Feel free to express/state your reasoning(s) behind them.
