Generally I dont like the childhood friend characters because they always tend to be a bit coy and potential housewifey, I find this sweetness kind of offputting.
Id rather go for the hawt spunky other character than the girl who you've known most of your life... Its too comfortable to go for that option I think.

Depends on if there the childhood friend is a main character, if she/he is, than yeah, of course, but otherwise, I go with the main heroine.
