Surely you've seen a show that either had a really crappy ending and could have been better or a good ending that could have been great, with that. I shall start:

Last Exile: Last episode should have been two, could have put more valuable things in there which could have made a bit more sense

Clannad: In my opinion

a kissing scene with Nagisa and Tomoya would have been great, it was really well done in Kanon, and Key could have done better ten fold with Clannad, hell, at least HOLD HANDS, YOU WON'T GET PREGNANT!!! (not until ~AS~ anyway...)


Clannad ~AS~

I was thinking one day amidst the rat shit and shoveling, I thought that ~AS~ could have taken another route with Tomoya falling for Kyou would have been an interesting turn, but I think I would have swallowed rat poison, jump off a roof and land on my hauntavirus infected shovel, main point being to this, they could have at least shown Nagisa's face a few times, and instead of a "compilation" episode, call me tacky and cliche, but some form of marriage or reunion scene, would have made a great ending end even better.


Kanon:

Could have been a bit less vague about Yuichis miracles, some explanation would have been nice, great one still.


Valkyria Chronicles (yes I watched it, was ok, save the love BS triangle):

he was a douche all through the anime, then he does something cool at the end, kinda felt bad for him after I laughed a few times...

P.S. They lace Taiyaki with COCAINE

The ending shouldn't have ended the series, in my opinion. The series should have continued with Kaede training as a ninja. No kiss in the end also? There was even a scene where Shinobu gropes Keade. Yet, that's just the pervert in me talking...

School Rumble

Tenma and Kurasuma!? Really? AND KURSUMA IS RETARDED!?! Harima deserved better. I think it would take a couple more volumes of School Rumble in order to rectify the story to the point there can be a HarimaxTenma pair. No one thing in particular would of fixed the ending

CLAYMORE...

I'm not going to write a long review of this, I'm too tired. Basically, the just stopped the show dead in its tracks. So much more could've been done with the 5 strongest girls. If I remember correctly, some of them weren't even introduced by the end, even though a lot of energy seemed to be put into making them seem all-powerful and menacing. I just wasn't satisfied I guess, because up until the end, this was one of my favorite shows of all time. =/

other than that OMNIBUS FTW.. seriously, if there's no "strong" main story, people should stick to omnibus.

I hate the omnibus format tbh. Sure sure you make everyone happen but its boring and melodramatic to watch. I'll take an angst filled puberty ridden anime like White Album over an omnibus anime anyday. Would've killed someone if Clannad choose to go omnibus rather than how it did.

and Clannad IMO was pseudo-omnibus, since it actually went into almost all the girls routes, even though most of them are not resolved by love, That's why there's Kyou After and Tomoyo After, because their routes involves heavy romance. They omitted all the Love endings to get this "linearity". Also happened in Air and Kanon.

Omnibus formats might serve better for those who actually want they're favorite girl to get the end.
example:
Look at Shuffle, it's now basically Kaede Fans Vs Asa Fans, with Shia, Nerine and Primula fans on the sidelines. Just because of the original ending.

TL;DR
Omnibus formats only works if there's no "Strong" Main story that can be crated originally.

White Album was a good example of a "strong" main story. whilst Amagami is the best example for an omnibus format, because there's no strong main story that can be created from the original that.

In omnibus all fans can have they're favorite girl, whilst in non-omnibus some can only take the bitter pill and just enjoy it as it is.

More omnibus rant:

There are some stories that do have main leads though. There are certain stories where despite the harem nature of it, you can still tell that one of the girls or guys is the main love interest. People have their favorites, but if the story is well written you can at least partially concede things ended happily.

Spoiler:
Shuffle was one of these stories - Kadae was obviously the main love interest. She was always by Rin's side since the beginning, he cared for her, and it was assumed that Rin would choose her instead of becoming king of hevean or hell. HOWEVER !##$ ASA RUINED IT! She didn't have main character status, was not unique in any particular way that made her more special than the other girls (where Kadae was there from the beginning and Rin's childhood friend). This is what makes so many people mad - it was a happy first half season, then the second half was basically "lets fuck with Kadae and abuse her mentally and emotionally until she goes mad with yandere spirit." Asa is hated because she is the catalyst behind this.

I ranted all about shuffle to say, Omnibus is good for many stories, but it must also be conceded that some stories do have leading characters and should follow their romantic path despite the many other paths available.

I just didn't like it. The whole reincarnation theme was badly done as we see no glimsp of the characters in their new incarnations. It was fairly confusing as well and there was no real closure to anything. Overall, it ended sadly - which isn't a bad thing to do, but only if there is a point to it end in a sad tone. Air was sad just for sadness sake.

instead they just showed other character epilogue, No Rina or Yuki.. Sucks.
