Not having this Death Note-like power would circumvent many moral/ethical issues that are being discussed here. However, it is true that because of Kira, he did wipe out a good portion of criminals regardless of means or motives. I think it would be better off if such power didn't exist. Not even in the slightest did I once consider him as a "GOD." Though I'd have to admit, he did pull-off one hell of a stunt in playing "one." It sure was fun while it lasted...
About the "imminent doom" you've mentioned; that's the inevitable fate of all humanity. We're bound to meet "it" sooner or later, with or without a death note. - There shouldn't be much of a difference at all.

No Human has the right to decision who live or die.
You can t say if somebody is good or evil.
If somebody kill a other human he is evil or ?
But what if he kill somebody to save many other innocent people ?
If somebody steal something he is evil or ?
But what is if he stole something to if he is hungry or try to save his family ? (If you have no money it is a hard problem to live.)
And the other problem is if you want say that somebody is good or evil where is the borderline ?

I understand L wanted 2 catch him but I dont think any 1 else would want 2 let him live. Plus it hard to let a guy live after he kill close to a 1000 people and what about all the guilty people who are let free from our justice system.

[b]I agree Sereaphim there is a borderline. Justice is just a word people interpret in there own way. Some believe an eye for an eye while other just want people put in jail. So I am guessing then you don't believe in the death penitity

The series explores Kira's usage of the death note and the motives behind his actions. The common citizens think he's just in killing off criminals and other bad characters in society. Others in the populace thought him as a person on a high-horse, like who died and made him boss? Then there are those in the law-enforcement who think of him as a threat to mankind as a unidentifiable and uncompromising power that has the ability to kill you whenever and wherever. I take my stance with the law-enforcement on the issue that such a powerful tool like the death note is too dangerous to exist in society. By not having such a murder tool in our physical world, this kind of morality and ethics issues surrounding the death note would be moot.

Imagine a person or a group of people having access to a murder tool like the death note - I would surely believe that society would be fucked over and everything would change. And add the fact that people would be dying left and right, and even people fighting to take posession over such a tool - death note is not only death, but it also represents power, and an unnecessary one.

When he first conceptualized the idea, his heart was probably in the right place. It really didn't take long at all for him to be corrupted by his own new found power, though. A lot of people agreed with what he was doing... so long as he was only killing the worst criminals. The question becomes, where would it stop? What would happen when hardened criminals became too afraid to pull major crimes? The killing wouldn't have stopped. Light would have started killing people who only committed minor crimes. After that he probably would have made moral judgement calls. I think it's safe to say that the killing would have never stopped.

I'm pro Kira because Light was badass (except for the fact that he denied Misa's advances... Seriously WTF!?). But in a real life situation, I wouldn't like to have him around... >_>

Light, as a person before getting the Death Note, was a pretty likable guy although a little too "clean cut" like his father. Then he found the Death Note and went insane. My opinion would probably be different about him if he had just stuck with killing criminals who would've been sent to death or for life anyway, but killing petty thieves for cover? I understand the need, but seriously. The means don't justify the ends. There is also the little fact he thought himself a god, while at the same time bossing around a real one.
Besides anyone who would have L killed for any reason deserves to "swim" in the middle of a warehouse.

Pro-Kira here. I can't remember the series very well, but I think he only killed off a couple people that weren't considered criminal. Whether it be a relatively minor crime or a horrendous crime, if these criminals who can realize the difference between right and wrong die for choosing the illegal choice, then I'm all for it. :shock:
