Ever get put down for not liking a mainstream anime series?

if so which mainstream series and why?

I'm not sure at the moment if this particular series is mainstream but it seems to be rising towards it i've seen a couple of episodes of My Little Sister Can't be This Cute! and it's really been quite a bore.

Since it's a purely Otaku-oriented series i see why but all they really do is mindlessly chatter about nonsense.

Naruto i still like but is started to stray off for me being excessively long.

It's usually the other way around. We put down each other for liking mainstream animes.

But no, I usually try to avoid talking about anime to my anime friends. We just don't have the same taste of anime. I need some more IRL anime friends.

Still get shit about K-on, Air, One piece and Clannad. The last three are palatable, K-on just because of Yui

Point is, everyone has different taste, and it is understandable that someone when someone is really passionate about something they like. However, if they put you down (to me that means "insult you") for not having the same taste, then you should just shrug it off. They're just being dumb and frankly immature.

What a strange question. Since not all of my friends are into anime, I usually get shit from them for liking anime, period, regardless of whether it's "mainstream" or not. Anime is still very much a niche market...

Yep. Only once. Some dudes in my class bashed me about liking anime but hating Bleach. After which I would ask how long do they think Aizen would last? Always got them to shut up.

I used to like what my friends like but as time goes by, I am liking those with a totally different genre of what I use to watch.

well i have a stronger opinion than my only anime friend, so if he puts me down, i list shit to put him in his place lmao
on the internets (not that i've ever cared what people online think), i get a few off comments, but nothing serious.
Naruto, i read the manga, but i can't get kicks off it. People say to give it up, but it's only 5 minutes per week out my life that i could be spending sitting and doing nothing.
K-on, the original author is a commercial, selling point, marketing GENIUS. I don't get the attraction but i DO love it alot.
Lucky star, not so into it atm but was good personal identification for some parts, although i can't relate to indiginous japanese stuff.
Bleach, MEH gave up a while ago

No not really but then again I hardly ever talk about Anime.

I dont watch any of the 'big' ones and I dont feel a need to because TBH I think their whack. (I.E Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Full Metal Alchemist, DBZ and Death Note ETC) Seen a few EPs of each of them at one time or another but if I dont watch them then I really dont wanna talk about them. (I haven't got anything nice to say so i'll keep it fucking zipped)

One thing though that makes me laugh is if im not playing Call Of Duty then some people can get quite aggressive saying "Im probably watching fucking Anime" in a childish patronizing sounding voice followed by "Get the fuck on COD nao".

I got blamed for not liking Bleach or Death note. They are not bad, I just don't like them, but the fanboys/fangirls are so damn presistent...

I couldn't really get into Toradora, and everyone is always shocked/sometimes appalled whenever I tell them.

Never did. People tend to like you more if you have a variety of knowledge toward other animes.

Not many of my friends watch anime. Out of those who do, they usually watch DBZ/Naruto/Bleach/etc. I know some of them watched Gurren Lagann and Cowboy Bebop, though. Very few of them watch shows from other genres, like Clannad, Azumanga Daioh, or even Last Exile and Claymore.

One of my friends is really into Naruto, but it doesn't bug him that much that I don't like it.

I think I'm the only one who watches H anime, although I have to admit I don't really discuss that with others... Unless my friends are too but don't want to mention it either?

Anyway, I think some people don't like "mainstream" anime, just like some people don't like "mainstream" music.

Go to IB here and make a thread labeled I like Naruto. I have an idea about the psychology behind it but rather not explain it.

Yeah but I don't really care. I gave up watching Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece a long time ago because I'm not really fond of very long anime series (although I faithfully watch Detective Conan which has 500 plus episodes already) and they just don't really fit my taste. >///<
