So! I had a good talk on Monty Oum's current work, the Dead Fantasy series, with Skyler, an oldfag at FAKKU! (Get your ass over here!). It got me thinking that there should be a thread made in his honor because this guy is so friggin epic with these works, which is usually made of chicks, fanservice, fighting, and overall WIN. This is the thread to post his vids and his works and discuss and expect spoilers - you have been warned. And his videos are so epic that they cannot be spoilered.

To start off dicussion, who the hell is that leather wearing axe-swinging girl in Dead Fantasy II? I know she's from the DOA series, but I haven't been able to identify her. Another character I can't identify is that girl who shows up with Hayabusa at the end of Dead Fantasy V - I'm thinking she's also another DOA girl, but who I don't know.

There's also the many plot twists, like what's going to happen to Tifa, why was Hayate and Helena after her? Why did Hitomi slap Hayate? What was up with Hayate's kindness after whupping Tifa's ass? Why is Kasumi fighting her own clones? What happened to all the other characters like (the allmighty) Rinoa, Ayane, Rikku, and that axe-girl? Discuss!! Just remember that anything Monty Oum related goes here, not just the Dead Fantasy series, which I choose to start from because it's ongoing.

edit: Apparently the Axe-girl from Dead Fantasy II is Rachel from Ninja Gaiden, and that new girl in Dead Fantasy V is Momiji from Ninja Gaiden.

I really enjoy watching Monty Oum's work. Though I have to admit I still have to watch Dead Fantasy V :lol:

I first saw his work, Haloid. Later, a friend showed Dead Fantasy to me ... on a large projection screen. That was intense.

Well... I think Tifa's fate could end up being the same as Kasumi, which is her being clone because of her skill and power. I think this is also the reason why they want Tifa.



Hitomi felt like Hayate cheated her during her fight against Tifa. Hitomi wanted to face Tifa alone. Honestly, it was a good fight until Hayate and his ninjas interfered. Hell, Hitomi was going great against Tifa.



I think he feels guilty for what he has done and could end up happening to her. Or, it could because he respects her fighting spirit. Hell, Tifa took care of those ninjas despite the condition she was in.



Well... It seems Helena would do anything to capture Tifa or anyone from the Final Fantasy Universe. Even if it meant unleashing the clones.




Transported into other worlds where the ladies can fight.

Sounds reasonable, though I never knew Helena was a bad person, I was under the assumption that she did not create the clone but Donovan did. And the clones could be a nod to that reference to the DOA series.



That's what I thought, that Hayate butted in and took the fight from her, or that he reduced Tifa to such a miserable state that she was outraged, and expressed it with a slap. Though this was a complete 180 when Tifa was owning Hitomi in Dead Fantasy II.



Possibly. I felt like he was a dick and let his underlings do the fighting and he just did his finishing move.



It seems, assuming that Helena created the clones, which from the looks on her face and the hesitancy to unleash the clonse (her wavering over the enter key), it doesn't sound valid. Then again, I think time will tell. Or prehaps that Kasumi did not like the interference and did not know the purpose of her look-alikes, so she took offense at that. That's the theory I'm operating on, because you can see in some scenes that she's fighting her clones as they are fighting Yuna in sorceress mode.



I know that... but I figured we were going to see another fight between these girls in Dead Fantasy V instead of the continuation of Dead Fantasy III. Apparently Kairi is going to be fighting some gun-toting girl that's only seen in the promotional poster.



I can only imagine that we'll see a cumulation of the girls at the city proper where Tifa is being transported. I do hope Helena isn't going to do some weird shit to Tifa, or I'll be RAGING!!! Tifa being bloody already got me mad... that dick of Hayate. And the cutscene in Dead Fantasy V where Tifa falls over the cliff and gets transported to the temple in Dead Fantasy I makes sense in that Rinoa teleported her there to help the other FF girls. I say Rinoa and the DOA wiki also states it since there was a feather that floated upward as Cloud looked on, that feather signifying Rinoa's powers at work.

You do have a point. Helena hasn't really done anything that would be consider bad. I mean, in the end of D0A 4, she did blow up the headquarters. Though, who knows... This isn't DOA... This is Dead Fantasy... =p





Yeah, but, I had a feeling that Hitomi was going to turn the tide of the fight. I mean, when you see someone start concentrating like Hitomi did near the end of the fight, then it's over. Heh... Still, it was a great fight. I wouldn't say it was as epic as the first two parts of the series, but it's up there.





Well... That's what the Head Ninja does. He lets his underlings do fighting. However, you got to remember that Tifa was the one who came at him. All he did was defend himself. Still, I suppose you could consider it a dick move.





You could be right about that. I almost forgot that Helena hesitated when activating the clones. Also, Kasumi does hate for what DOATEC done to her. But, as you said, "Time will tell".





You know... For some time now, I've been wondering who Kairi is going to fight with. It looked like it was going to be Kairi against Rachel, but it seems Rachel has her eyes on Rinoa which should be an awesome fight. Hmm... I wonder who the girl with the guns are. I don't know anyone from DOA who would guns and with short hair. Or, could be a character from another Team Ninja game.




I admit that I was furious when I saw Tifa get defeated by Hitomi. But, in a way, you have to be satisfied that Tifa's defeats were not so much one sided, if it was, then I would truly be outraged. Still, I can't wait for the next installment of this incredible series. It's a shame we're going to have 'til 2011 or 2012 for the next one.

You can certainly tell when he starts to using his own models. Heard he got a few jobs after Haloid was an internet success, that's pretty cool.

I liked it better when his projects were just fight scenes, but because they were so popular, he branched them off into storylines.

@Tsujoi: Well, he's still using the game models, but some like Cloud and others are definitely original. But hey, storylines makes things more interesting than pure out and out fighting. Even Haloid had a mini-plot.

@Death God Kusanagi: Are you SERIOUS about the 2011/12 DATE?!?!?! I really don't want to wait over 2 years for another video... I'm pretty sure that's not the case, and I know he's still procuring material for the next battles, but nothing that would take over a few months...

As for Tifa coming at Hayate, no man, it's the other way around. After she got punched or kicked out of the burning church by Hitomi, Hayate appeared and chased after her - remember the train chase? Really, Hayate resorted to some real brutality, and even let his ninjas get slaughtered when all he had to do was to step in and take down a hurt Tifa.

I and still believe that Hitomi slapped Hayate for the unecessary amount of damage he incurred on Tifa, remembering the way she looked over at Tifa's body in his arms all bloody and unconcious, then gripping her fist and slapping him. He SO deserved that slap.

As for Kairi's opponent, it's been thrown out there that it could be her "shadow" or "nobody", but that's nothing more than guesswork and hunches.



As for that part, I think you mistook my words. I meant Helena had better not be doing some weird experiments on Tifa for whatever nefarious scheme, e.g. brainwashing or cloning controllable replicants, or I will RRRAAAGGGEEE!!!

It could be both. And she might even clone the materia they got from Tifa. Just a hunch.

@voltampirs: ah, the materia - good catch. It did seem that Helena had an interest in the materia located in Hitomi's forearm. Who knows what's she gonna do with them.

@g-money: Well, from what I understand Monty Oum's has been sick, or not feeling too well. Also, I believe he said that he was going to take a break from the Dead Fantasy series. It's also said the next one could be coming out in 2011. I read it his website as GameTrailers.com. But, I could be wrong.

Oh, and yeah, I understand you now about you raging. Heh.

@voltampirs: Jeesh, I can't believe I forgot that part. That could be Helena's goal here. Study the materia and all that stuff.

btw guys. ever noticed that some of the moves they used are from fighting games? me and my friend noticed it. Yuna did 2 Lili moves (the 2+4 throw iirc and the 3+4 move) while Rikku did Xiaoyu's uf 3+4. Rikku and Kairi's tandem attack is from Rival Scools (Akira's team). All in Dead Fantasy 2. I'm not complaining though, I actually find it impressive!

Just watched em all. And "holy crap" is all I have to say. Actually, I have something to ask. Do you happen to know of how many people does the Monty Oum team consist? (If you tell me that's all a one man job, i'll cum)

as far as i know, yeah it's a one man job.

Yeah, it's a one man job. Although, he wasn't the one to rip the game models.


@g-money: Is he still using all the game models for each character still? I had heard he replaced them because of the rigging/animation restrictions on them.

I don't think he meant for Dead Fantasy to have a plot though. Or at least as big of a plot it has now.

Yeah, I definitely noticed that some of those moves were from other games, like Tifa’s Chun-Li signature kick. Tifa also incorporated many modern kung-fu moves like drunken fist and the butterfly kick. Hitomi does more than just karate, and it looks like elements of muay thai with Tai-chi-quan mixed in. (In Dead Fantasy II) In Dead Fantasy III, after getting hit with the blindness materia, it looks like many of Hitomi’s moves were a mix of tai-chi/tai-chi-quan. I really liked the way Monty Oum goes out his way to animate these special manuvers.

In fact, one of Rinoa’s attack quote, “Shoot”, I swear comes from Melty Blood’s Sion Eltnam Atlasia’s own attack move.



Did you cum yet, Kuroneko1/2? I know I did. It’s all part of Monty’s awesomeness because he alone did all of the animation work with the exception of extrapolated models. Monty Oum makes me jizz in my pants.

@Tsujoi: I’m not sure though, but definitely the models have changed simply due to character design. I have no idea where he got the model for Cloud, but it definitely looks remade in the old model base. He’s also looking for new costume designs with Rikku for the next fight.

so many cliff hangers , with only time to reveal them all =w= but heck thanks to Monty now i am not sleeping dead anymore and remembered how much focus it needs to do a fight like that so i think i got slapped wake by Monty , still unsatisfied on how bad Tifa is injured though , feels like crushing Hayate's balls anytime.

Don't we all? Hayate's actions were truly over the top and unecessary.

Btw, anyone noticed the use of the "ether" bottle in Dead Fantasy II? I remember watching a commercial for those Final Fantasy limited edition drinks when I went to Japan in summer 08. They sold out FAST. A nifty reference to the FF franchise courtesy of Monty Oum - this guy is clever. Here's a picture of said bottles:

but still, hats off to Tifa for having the most screentime and taking down a lot before getting KO'ed. though i still feel that Rinoa is Monty's fave because of her abilities.
