[General] Most Depressing Anime?

Gantz became the most depressing with the killing of the main characters during 2/4s of the episodes and the ending really sucked.

yeah depressing but if you read in the manga the other characters been revive...

Most depressing anime I've seen was probably Saikano or School Days. One of those two anyways.

In no particular order...

Grave of the Fireflies
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Raxephon
Wolf's Rain

gurren lagann why big bro, damn it why did he have to die that really sickened me and flcl love the anime but I just wish it.... i dont know show was crazy

Cowboy bepop's ending made me sad, but in a good way, it was a brilliant end. Same goes for the Neon Genesis Evangelion, I didn't like too much the first half of the series but it got better towards the end.

Grave of the Fireflies didn't do it for me, though. I liked the touch of raw realism in that, but it make me think more than it made me depressed.

Also Ergo Proxy was depressing on it's own way. Watch it. It's awesomeness.

Elfen Lied! is one of them XD

Claymore can be included as well ....

Saikano and elfen lied were depressing. Also the VN Kirakira, but it was more so philisophical than depressing.

The ending of Air left me more depressed than anything else.

Going to have to say Kannazuki no Miko

I cried so many manly tears to that, it was hands down the most depressing IMO.

Clannad, at times, had it's share of depression moments. Ushio T^T

probably Clannad best anime i have ever seen but it still made me cry lol

What series deserves this title?
(I'm sure it's been done time and time again, but rather than necro an old topic I'm just going to restart it)

"Ano hi mita hana no namae wo bokutachi wa mada shiranai" made me spill tears. I really liked how sadness was portrayed in that anime.


My friends tell me that "Grave of the Fireflies" is even sadder. I haven't watched it yet but I think it will make me cry a river.

Same here. It deserves an Oscar.
And the voice acting is pretty good, which adds more feel to the story.
