[General] Most Depressing Anime?

Saikano. Especially the manga.

Also, but that's probably just me, Casshern SINS. It's one of the anime that impressed me the most in these past few years.

My thoughts exactly, the Seiyuus really portrayed the emotions of each character.

Don't forgot about Angel Beats too.

Grave of the Fireflies - Now when I know the end, I'll never watch the movie again.
I did feel some feel when I watched ToraDora and Welcome to the NHK.

Never heard of "Ano hi mita hana no namae wo bokutachi wa mada shiranai", Casshern SINS or Saikano.

And haven't watched Angel Beats or Clannad After Story yet.

Personally, I agree.

Elfen Lied. Both the anime and the manga made me burst into tears (especially the manga).



I sure don't know what the lyrics mean but they seem pretty sad to me.

I didnt cry...I sobbed.

I didn't find Clannad After Story sad only because it ended happily.

What I did find sad was Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu.


And definitely Voices of a Distant Star.

So the tragic scenes didn't make you sad at the time?

Not...really. I mean, the individual events were sad, but because it had a happy end, it made me significantly less sad in retrospect, if that makes sense. Like I revised the sadness score from an 8 to a 5 just because of the ending, where I can look at the series as a whole, instead of point to point.

I feel the most sad about seeing the end to anime and manga that I hold a vested interest in, either because of the amount of time I spent on it, or if it's really just that good.

As a kid, Love Hina made me feel that way. Like...what do I do now? I didn't read it online. I've been buying this manga once a month for almost a year, and now it's done. I just ended a large part of my routine. Made me sad to see it go.

And then if you take that feeling and layer on the feeling from a sad end? It's exponential. I want to scream at someone to fix it! Make me happy! Tie up all these loose ends! Make me feel good!...MONSTER'S BALL STYLE.
