I see a lot of Anime shows are running at 13EP?

I thought they used 13 episodes because 13 weeks is roughly the length of a school semester (in north america anyways) and the target audience is mostly students.

Nah, it's mostly because of the budgets. Most animation companies doesn't have the budget nor the guts to instantly buy the airing rights for more than 1 season. That's why sometimes you see "2nd season will be determined by the saled of the DVD/BD" or "a series is split into 2 cours"

Basically they don't want to risk it all at one series. In the "early age", production cost wasn't as high as now, that's why you see many animes made it into 50 or even more than 100 episodes.

It's more of an economic reason than just "weird business model".

i miss animes of 24-26 episodes :(

I miss all the powerful 20+ episode animes too but one problem with either of them is that sometimes second season or no it just drops or leaves you pissed cuz you want to know whats next or wtf happened. I know one anime that if not for the manga still being ongoing and available i would have killed to get continued and that air gear and its only one of the many animes that are underdone. but more on the point part of the reason why the seasons are so short is it is meant to fit the time slot for summer, winter, fall, etc.

I agree with that list with the exception of Elfen Lied. Don't fuck with perfection and it's one of the rare animes that I thought was better than the manga. Where the anime cut off the manga should have too because the writing quality dropped (in my opinion) after that point. Don't get me wrong I loved it nonetheless, but leaving it where it is seems more right to me.

Its a shame really, seeing anime having to be shorten due to cost. Honestly I'm not a fan of original endings and filler. That is why I loved when they did Full Metal Alchemist over again. My god its an amazing series and to have done 64 episodes to finish of with canon is awesome. I hope company's pick up on old series or do redos to them. I'm actually surprised Hunter x Hunter got the pick up and the manga is still going. For me all I want is a redo of Soul Eater just to add canon and polish it up. An anime for Ga-Rei and a continuation of Shikabane Hime. Can't think of more at the moment.

Highschool of the Dead, Ore no Imouto, Mayo Chiki needs more material to run on.

Onegai Teacher, B Gata H Kei, FMP: 2nd Raid are animes I have not watched yet, therefore I can not criticize.

GAINAX trolled us on PSG. Dunno what's their agenda from that point on.

Sacred Seven, Hatsukoi Limited and Elfen Lied are animes I am satisfied with. At that kind of ending, it just felt right to end it there. Sacred Seven would need a more evil antagonist and another plotline which will probably be similar to the first AND flashier armor if Arma's and Knight's armor aren't flashy enough in the last episode. Elfen Lied SHOULD NEVER EVER BE RESURRECTED FOR A SEASON 2. It was a true classic to enjoy enough even without the need to read the manga and ended at the same time as well. If they were to bring Elfen Lied back up, they better do it at the same quality and follow the manga's plot just like FMA: Brotherhood; meaning more episodes to connect EVERYTHING TOGETHER, which will take up quite a budget(my opinion). As for Hatsukoi Limited, the manga ended. End of story. Done.

Freezing was on of those anime that rushed everything at the end. Beaten the S Pandora, what now? If they're to do S2, keep it at the same pace as the manga, which probably won't be for a while since the artist's running SO MANY series at the same time( seriously WTF?).

Black Lagoon: Roberta's BloodTrails is an DIRECT TRUE sequel to the Yakuza arc(said in episode 3 or 4 I believe)

I prefer the short 13 episode season because I believe:
1. Not many anime's should be too long otherwise it may end up dragging itself on and become boring and repetitive.
2. It allows for even more anime to be produced in shorter amounts of time than usually would. Perhaps this way we could run into some new creative concepts.
3. It will leaving you wanting more! Supply and demand baby!


A great example I can give you, which is non-anime related, is the comic Watchmen. It was a limited series that became an extraordinary piece of literature. Sure we may want more Watchmen but it is completely perfect the way it is now and if it were to be expanded upon I feel it may lessen the quality of the series as a whole.
