Is a guy wearing a anime t-shirt with male characters gay?

Not that I particularly give a damn but someone stopped me today and insinuated I was gay because I was wearing a Rurouni Kenshin /Samurai X t-shirt that was of Kenshin, Saito, Raijuta, and Aoshi. I told him I was not gay and to not make assumptions based on a t-shirt but it raised a question in my mind.

If you were a guy and you wore anime t-shirts, would you wear ones that were of male characters or female ones. I dont' think I'm gay but that doesn't mean I'm gonna start wearing a t-shirt of Sailor Venus, Sailor Mercury, and Sailor Mars in public. This might be like that stereotype they had in high school for me that guys were supposed to listen to girl bands and girls were supposed to listen to guy bands

Good question, but I don't own any anime shirts (unfortunately... I wish I had some).

I do however think that it depends on the anime/manga characters you are showing. I believe Rurouni Kenshin character designs were somewhat effeminate, and so I can somewhat understand what the guy was thinking.

If it was me, I'd wear anything I want, guys, girls, monsters, robots, etc. I'd wear something cool and something that represents me. Most likely I'd wear something with the anime title and some sort of symbol.

Either way, the people who would make fun of you because of a shirt that you wear are assholes. I don't think that it would be gay. It's more like you are so secure with your sexuality that you don't give a shit what other people say. Lets say that I bought a shirt. Would I get a shirt of a girl in a sexy pose purring at the onlookers. Or would I buy a shirt that had a badass dude wielding a sword, has several guns holstered, and had a cannon coming out of his chest. You pick your choice; it doesn't matter what you wear as long as you like it. It doesn't make you gay.

wouldn't me, as a guy who carries a different mask to school everyday become some geek then? And yes, i love collecting and painting masks.

I knew that the guy was an idiot, a fact which I told him to his face and in less than polite terms. I was just curious if anyone else saw it that way. I changed my mind, maybe tomorrow I'll go find a sailor moon t-shirt of Sailor Mercury, Mars, and Venus, hell I've already got a poster in my room of them sitting in my room.

That actually raised another question for me. Why do so many guys think liking Sailor Moon or at least openly declaring your like for it is wrong. I've met no small amount of guys who have told me I was wierd for liking it. Like the last guy I told them all it was none of their beeswax. Maybe its cause its a sentai show, I guess adults expect people to grow out of liking those shows but I was and still am a sentai fan. Hell, I have most of the seasons of power rangers on my hard drive.

btw, I would love Haruhi for my girlfriend if it weren't for the fact she would blow the world up if I made her mad, lol

Apparently, it isn't manly to acknowledge that you like a "girls" show. They try to avoid it whenever they can. It's because of the people who think you're weird that other people don't admit that they like the show. People want to be included in society; not be an outcast. They just piss off and join the crowd.

I agree, although I doubt that applies to guys in Japan. I bet people wouldn't even give me a second look if I wore a sailor moon shirt in public in Tokyo or especially in the Akihibara district

It doesn't make you gay to wear an anime T-shirt, regardless of what it depicts. Honestly, whoever said that to you was just an ass.

wearing cloths with male anime characters will somehow be treated as cool by the normal society, while wearing female ones will make you look like a weirdo

Personally, i won't wear cloths with female anime chara, Since I like seeing them, and wearing them means that I can't see them. But if it was a key chain or some accessory with a female anime chara picture I'll wear/use it and I can visually see them.

One of my comeback arguments if somebody is stupid enough to ask "Why are you wearing/using a girl character as a (variable)?"

Anime/manga culture has not thoroughly infected the USA enough for people to be able to openly wear anime/manga shirts without being derided. It's spreading though.

Then again, when it comes towards shirts, I prefer to a have a shirt with a cool design than what's actually on it. I'm pretty picky when it comes towards clothing.

but seriosly, i don't think wearing an anime shirt of male characters make you gay if you're a guy. I think you should wear that t-shirt with pride because Rurouni Kenshin is kickass

imo wearing anime shirts outside japan infront of non-anime watching people isnt gay at all, in their eyes its just weird, and they put a "gay" sign to it.

Your t-shirt can't dictate your sexuality, although it can give away some of your preferences.
