Left to right VS right to left

I know every single comic on this site is a right to left reading style so most people are going to prefer that, but just wondering, what benefits actually come from doing it like this? Is there any reason? I recall in digital design class that the human eye instinctively reads top left to bottom right which would seem to justify the left to right reading style, but I'm curious to get opinions.

I don't know about the biological inhibitions you mention so I can't comment on those...

But after reading manga for years, I actually find it hard to read left to right. The only exception may be the newspaper. It's all in the habits, IMO.

Either is fine. Altough i tend to read regular comics like a manga.

Yea same here. If I pick up an American comic I'll accidentally start reading right to left until I figure out that something isn't quite right. Everything else is left to right though.

Yes, Right to left. It's because I got used to it.

Everytime I read a comic I try to read it from right to left even if it isn't a manga >_>

Yeah, after reading alot of manga got used to it too. I even read regular comics and catch myself reading them right to left.

I read that almost all translated manga preserves its right-to-left format because, if mirrored, some pages would look odd (i.e. pages with English already on it).

Id rather read "The 'Nam" left to right but id rater read "Bitter Virgin" right to left! Depends on what feels more real!!

i got used to right - left

but the chinese/japanese use this method because in the old times they used pergamis or scrolls which opened up sideways and if they wrote from left to right they would have to fully open the scroll to read if it were a brand new scroll,
so they used writting right to left cus that's the first piece you see whe you open up a scroll and aslo if they wrote sideways you would have to fully open up the scroll that's why they writte up to down

Even though I got used to reading right to left from manga, I still prefer reading left to right.

It's all about habits. I've been reading manga for years, but sometimes I still catch myself reading a page from left-to-right. Personally I'd prefer it left-to-right, but tradition doesn't change that easily.

I'm pretty sure it's this simple: The Japanese, when writing horizontally, do it just like us, from top left to bottom right. But, unlike us, they can also write vertically. And when writing vertically, the orientation becomes top right to bottom left. And that's how they do it in manga, just like in other regular japanese books.


I find that a little dubious. Isn't it an instinct just for us, who are used to solely read from left to right, top to bottom?

After reading so much manga and doujins for so long, I actually tend to read regular comics right to left to xD

Of course I can't actually "read" it that way x__x
