Adaptations holds the possiblity of "change".
I'm sure most of us would've on one occasion wished for an ending that's better towards his/her opinion. Whereas the original was good, an adaptation, with a good direction can be driven better. Of course, vice versa if the director's a narrow minded douche, the viewers can only provide the sweet tears of rage.
One good example would be Shuffle! Everyone thought that the ending would've Rin ending up with either Sia or Nerine, it turned out to be Asa. I wouldn't comment on how the progress of the anime went, considering that i dropped it halfway but there as explained lies the "Change" that i mentioned.
Yes, true enough. I liked the anime adaption much more than the original VN. The way it was animated was very different and the story was very engaging and fast paced. I didn't like the ending very much though cause I was an all-out Lisianthus/Sia fan. Well, it was still a very enjoyable series and one of the best adaption imo.
However, I would say that most of the time the original work would be better as most adaptions tends to cut off certain details and in the case of VN adaptions, especially the multi route ones, they tend to join and mash all the routes into one and (most of the time) does a bad job of it.
Examples of this includes, Fate/Stay Night anime and Tayutama anime. They keep trying to join all the routes together and needless to say, it was a horrible job. Tsukihime had the same fate as well. The original VN was so interesting yet the anime was so boring for some reason.
