You never know, look at Madoka. That's an antithesis to the magical girl genre. You think "magical girl" anime, you immediately think of titles like Sailor Moon or Cardcaptor Sakura, happy go lucky girls that shoot hearts and stars from their wands. If you seen Madoka, you know that isn't the case. Again, who knows? Maybe I'll stand corrected and the anime will take a huge turn.
The Madoka comparison doesn't work here. Even if you ignored that the writer was Urobuchi, all the other staff members, and everything the studio said to promote it, the first episode by itself leaves a very different impression than the typical magical girl series.

You're always quite blunt and arrogant when replying to people.
Not always. In this case, I saw only three possibilities that a person can have for this series: loli-fanservice, sports drama, or slice-of-life. None of these types of anime typically generate high expectations. Sports drama was unlikely because writers prefer using teenagers in those. This made loli-fanservice and slice-of-life more or less equal possibilities ... until the first episode came. Additionally, the phrase: "How can you go wrong?" was particularly infuriating since Iamnotchrishansen paired it with "originality", which made it impossible for this anime (and many others if he applies this logic elsewhere) to
not be disappointing.
Anyway, episode 4:
Good thing I'm not a lolicon or the ending of this episode would have killed me. Five lolis dressed in school swimsuits and aprons saying "Welcoome home, dear"? May the poor lolicons who died after hearing that rest in peace. Also, I applaud Subaru for his tactical thinking. Using Innocent Charm against the boy who likes Hina was cruel, yet brilliant.
