Should I Watch...

Alright boys and girls I have a few questions about a certain anime that I have been wanting to watch but couldn't bring myself to for a few reasons: Clannad and Clannad After Story.
I understand that these animes stand out amongst others, especially in there genre; however, I was wondering what type of romance it is. According to ANN, it seems like a slow paced romance between a delinquent and a lonely girl. But I can't help but assume that its another harem with the usual dry and repeated situations and comedy that are frequently seen in Love Hina, Ah! My Goddess, Toradora, etc etc...
I'm not saying those are terrible animes, but, I just grew tired of harems. Unfortunately, I've been craving for a romance anime and I just can't seem to let go of Clannad.
So I guess what I want to ask is why was Clannad so good to you? what makes it stand out?
Btw...feel free to ask about other animes/mangas here.

Watch...it...now! It's the only anime that's made me very emotional; and that's saying alot. Plus after it's all over there's the reflecting period where you want more but can't. It's one of those rare gems where you feel for the characters and hope the paths they all choose will turn out for the better for them.
Even though there's a lot of female characters in the anime; it's not a harem, because they are not all trying to get Tomoya attention, expect for the ova's. I'd watch the sub version first, not because the dub is bad or anything, but because some of the emotion may have been lost in translation.
Hope this helps you in deciding, but trust me it won't disappoint. I've haven't meet a person on here that didn't like it.

Go for the sub version from Eclipse, which is the best translation for it imo. Animes, especially romance ones, are not made to be dubbed because they're simply made to be voiced by japs :D... their voice acting is unique.
And btw, I've watched Clannad and AS 3 times, and everytime I cried almost as much as the first time... and it's the ONLY anime I've ever re-watched, and it still warms my heart whenever I see or remember parts of it.

edit: I take that back, Shelley Calene-Black voice makes Kyou sound like an old hag! >:(

Indeed :P... still, no dub can be as good or better than the japanese version.

I'll try to provide a more formal review of Clannad, unlike Jmac that got all emotional there.
Clannad really lives up to the hype, and rightfully so. The story is original (starts generic but dives into a really interesting plot). The visuals and animations are top notch, really gergeous in some scenes. And wonderfully directed, assuring you won't get bored (some people do claim to have been bored watching it, but a really small percentage of them).
Genre wise: No harem, ecchi, nor any of that cheap crap. It juggles between some comedy parts and serious/drama ones. But Clannad mostly stands out, as you must've figured by Jmac's intense speech, in it's drama parts. Which are quite intense (and good).
Overall, I absolutely reccomend it. Not just because it's my favorite anime, but because I believe it's a great anime, in every sense of the word.
