I will FINALLY give this anime a chance since so many of you says it lives up to its hype and isn't a harem.

And seriously, Clannad is an awesome anime. I guarantee that you'll love it. It's brilliantly done and whoever created it should get the first Nobel Peace Prize in the Field of Manga/Anime Artistry and Excellence (since they'd probably lump them both into the same category).
HOWEVER! If you do not cry at certain parts (I will not spoil, you'll know them when you see them) then YOU HAVE NO SOUL!

Not necessarily. Clannad IS my favorite anime, but I didn't go all high-school-girl crazy when reccommending it.

I myself have been talked to about the divine light that is Clannad and how I should watch it.
Part of me wants to, just to see and understand the high praise for it, but the other part keeps telling me to just stick with the action/adventure anime, because I've already been persecuted by my friends for liking Lucky Star and Haruhi, and it doesn't want to add another to that list.
That and I don't really have alot of friends that are into anime as I am, let alone Clannad. Also, I don't really have anyone to talk to about what I watch.
So, yeah, pick apart my way of going about this and reroute me to the promised land, if you may.
Part of me wants to, just to see and understand the high praise for it, but the other part keeps telling me to just stick with the action/adventure anime, because I've already been persecuted by my friends for liking Lucky Star and Haruhi, and it doesn't want to add another to that list.
That and I don't really have alot of friends that are into anime as I am, let alone Clannad. Also, I don't really have anyone to talk to about what I watch.

Anyway, Clannad is one of those rare types of animes that has surpassed its original.
The first season has tons of comedy for you to enjoy and yet as each arc unfolds, drama becomes more apparent and you'll realize why many love this story. It could touch your heart.
Then the 2nd season, ~After Story~, is just a great dramafest, yet you still go through them all because you'll want to see what happens in the end. In the 1st few episodes, it concentrates on the mini-arcs you could accomplish in the VN, but after that, it concentrates on the life of Tomoya and the people that are close to him.
How he lives his life and how it all ends... Well, you'll just have to watch it.

If your friends persecute you for having different tastes than them, then they are morons and maybe you should look for new ones... everyone is entitled to their opinion and tastes, and should not suffer from it if it doesn't negatively affect others.
Haruhi and Lucky Star are good animes, and you certainly won't regret watching Clannad.
Also none of my friends watch anime, and they deserve to die for that, but they don't have anything against me for it and we get along just fine.

Yeah, I'll admit that I got scared away from it - by said all caps self-pissing.
Makes it seem like this is fucking Naruto or something. Because that makes me wonder who is really biased here.
Meh, I barely watch anime anyway, only if a series catches my attention (and not in a "bad" way like this one) or if I translate doujinshi, but have no idea about the characters (that's why I watch Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu right now >_>)

I agree with umnut...if your friends ridicule you for liking anime then tell them to fuck off.
Although I started anime due to friends during freshman yr HS, all of them but one( who I rarely talk to now) moved on and dismissed anime as "childish". Now I keep anime out of conversations and to myself...but meh. I still watch it cause cmon...what other shows will give you badass fight scenes like DBZ, Code Geass, and Kenshin with emotion and a good storyline. What...Spongebob??

But True Tears and Air were amazing. Especially the animation for Air.
I guess Kanon will be next in line when I'm in the mood for a romance anime again.
Anyway, thanks for the suggestions but I think I'll stick with sub since imo sub>>>>dub. Just got through the first episode...seems alrite but I'll wait till I finish b4 I pass a judgement.
