That missing feeling

Remember the first time you watched anime? I don't. But I do remember a soft tingling sensation somewhere in my chest. A sensation that's somewhat nostalgic, a feeling when you found something long gone but forgotten, a feeling that made me crave for it, hungered for it, looked for it, loved for it. I miss that feeling.

It felt like my soul had sex for the first time. The first thought on my mind was 'What the hell am i doing all this time!' and 'What the hell was I missing out on all this time!'. Oh, how those days were great. The days when I kept watching, reading, downloading, searching like there was no tomorrow.

What caught me was its uniqueness and creativity. I loved how incredibly twisted it can become. I loved how incredibly touching it can become. I loved how it moved me. I loved how i loved the characters. And I loved how i hated them. Something most real-world movies and TV shows fail at. But most of all, I loved how I love anime and all its goodness.

It's kind of weird saying that anime literally changed my life, gave meaning to it, gave me a reason to wake up every morning. I probably won't admit this to someone else because it's too embarrassing and kind off geek-ish.

But sadly, that feeling has long passed and hollowed out.

My first experience with anime started with a manga being sold at a GameStop.
There was a topless chick inside. I was intrigued.

No where near as nice as your first time. But well, we all have to start somewhere ;)

Well, first anime I watched on my computer was The melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

After then I got addicted. I guess what you said it true though. You get curious, you watch and are astounded by the new form of media. =P

Ah...the nostalgic feeling of waking up every weekend 9oclock to watch Digimon and Pokemon on TV. I used to cry if I miss that.

that feeling eh? i used to have that too.when i'm still little,i always watch anime with my brother and sister till 4th grade.

but when i was in junior high 3rd year,i saw an anime magazine and curiously buy it.when i looked,i feel there's something awaken inside me like i miss this feeling (all of that time i just read manga,not anime).after that i started to watch animes that i've been interested and animes from manga adaptation.

mine happened when me and my friends watched the Oh! My Godess OVAs. It was after that that I started researching about anime and eventually manga.

Mine happen a few years ago when i saw cardcaptor sakura on TV for the first time. then i got addicted.

I honestly had no idea what anime was back when. Was watching Cartoon Network, just kind of chillin' and on comes this new show, with a funky style of drawing. (Think it was Sailor Moon.) I watched it whenever it came on, pretty cool show, thought nothing of it. Then my buddy, who is far more otaku-y then me. Showed me some other series, and I was shocked. There are more shows with that funky style of drawing?

One thing led to another and now I have the stuff all over the place. :p

I sort of lost that tingly feeling over the course of time.

When first got started on anime with Gundam Wing, I thought anime was the coolest stuff ever. As time went on, I find most anime series growing more and more lackluster, probably because I've already looked at or ground through all the good ones.

Nowadays, I barely take a look at the seasonal previews and at best find only one or two shows that would excite my interest.

My first anime was flame of recca.And it was subbed.To me at that point it was like the greatest cartoon(I didnt know it was anime at that time) I had watched ever.I proceeded to watch others like gate keeper and rurouni kenshin.I didnt had a computer at that time so TV was all I got.

A few years later I got smarter and a Computer and I knew what anime is and when crazy with every new show that came up.

A few years later and now,I realise I was losing interest in anime.
Not because they were not good.Just that most mainstream anime didnt have much to offer other than fan service,humor or over powered heroes.I guess as I grew older,my mind demands a more deeper story line or atleast something unique or the fan-service not overly done.

Thats why I read manga nowadays as it has great stories never animated and never will since it does not include fan-service,long drawn out battles and humor.

I think your tastes have become more refined. And now mediocre animes don't satisty you as much as they did back when you started. It's normal. You just have to pursue what gives you the most pleasure to watch.

My first anime was Love Hina, as this was the first manga(Among some others, they were released in an anthology) to be translated into swedish, and me being still a kid, I couldn't speak english that well.(Pokemon and Sailor Moon not included, since I had no idea that those were anime when I watched them.) I remember things quite clearly; I had borrowed a manga-comic book from a friend of mine and his was the first time I ever read manga, and I know I really enjoyed it. A week later, by sheer coincidence I stumble across a Love Hina OST file on the computer I shared with my two older brothers. And I figured that there had to be a movie/series based of the comic. And vóila, here I am, 6-7 years later, been hooked ever since those 20 mins of crappy resolution anime. (Seriously bad resolution. I still have those files, and I can't understand how I could actually see anything.)

I also miss that thrilling feeling one got back then. Now its like I watch on routine.

I agree, I was like that too in the beginning when i started watching anime.
I still get that feeling when I see something very good.

Too bad that as time passed by the only thing that improved in anime is detail in animation. Everything else seems to have plummeted. With a few exceptions.

I agree with you at some degree, it's sad to see but there are still many animes that are new and very good.

I'm addicted to it since only 4 years ago.
I've watched some anime before that, but never got into it. And now, i'm not regretting it.
If people need to thank someone, the japanese can get all the praising. Just love their limitless creativity.
