The Anime Community Today

So I didn't know if I should've posted this in random or serious discussion as it could go either way, but I'll put it here for now. Plus this is my first topic on FAKKU so go easy on me.

Anyways, I've noticed some things within the anime community that could either be obvious truth or my imagination. Whenever I go on forums for anime, there are always the people that nitpick and analyze everything about the anime and give their opinions, usually of disappointment or hate, and then there are people who don't really care about the little details and just say general stuff, usually of enjoyment or pleasantness. A lot of the times I just see people bashing the anime without even giving reasons why or elaborating. I can understand if someone doesn't like an anime and stops watching it, but is it really necessary to rage and spew everything about it that displeases you? They go on and on about the animation quality, the sounds and music, the characters, the seiyuus, and etc.

I guess my question is: How do you watch anime? Do you nitpick everything? Does everything have to be top-notch quality for you to enjoy it or do you just go along with everything and not really care that much as long as the story is decent and the characters are nice? What do you think of the anime community today? Is it better or worse than previous years, and if so, why?

I personally don't really care about all the little details. As long as the story is interesting and the characters are varied then I'm good to go. I'm just easy to please that way I guess. The reason I post this is because I'm tired of all the people complaining and bitching about this and that and am wondering why they hell they do this. I'm all for that old saying, "If you don't have something nice to say, then don't say it at all." I mean how nice of a world it would be if people didn't complain. I myself haven't really noticed much change in the community but then again I wasn't really being observant of it.

eh, I agree with you if an anime is interesting I'll watch it, the little details don't matter that much. And as long as the animation is decent its cool.

as for those who bitch and whine about different anime I say

When I read a manga. I expect art that is well designed for the series in question. And I want a well designed story with decent pacing.

I expect all those things for an anime, and on top of it I expect a decent level of animation FOR it. As well as consistent animation for it. Also fitting voices for the characters.

There can be some trade-off, but not a whole lot. Otherwise I'd just read the manga for the story.

It depends on the series and circumstances. Take bleach and naruto, i like reading the manga and the first part of the series, but when the companies stray from the original story i start to rant and get pissed. I guess i a purist. That why i think the anime should be made after the manga run ended or aleast stay in the story it was written for... The only good example i can think of is DBZ. From the manga straight to the anime with i think one extra story that was rehashed from Dragon ball and still it was a filler, but it was short, and good.

I don't like alot of the anime that people go crazy and praise like air or K-on... story didn't interest me, but i don't bash the series to others because the stuff i like other's don't and that cool.

Pretty much the community is split up into three sections:
fanboys/otaku
weebs
and just fans.

you just gotta think for yourself and watch each anime with a grain of salt and decide if it good or not and not care what other's think and say. Including me. ^_^

id have to agree with you there, but i do kidna both, i dont nitpick everything and i watch it through and if i like the story and charecters it will be a good one for me, then i may or may not go back and watch it a bit more and watch to catch the details, but they dont matter to much to me. but then theres also the reverse. for things such as k-on. wich some would hate cuase it has next to no real storyline, but for me i love it to death for the fact that its heartstoping cute. not to mention funny as hell. it just meshes well with me i guess. there are others tho that urk me, like Naruto wich could be a good anime, if it didint go on to oblivian and beyond. the length fucking kills me. its ridicules. anyway, id put myself inbetween the fan and fanboy/otaku as there are some series, like eva. that i go CRAZY. over and i mean crazy. i will deffend if i see something being doged about it, but only realistically. i will pint out the pros and what not but if someones just ina blind rage i wont even bother. its just the way things work for me i guess

I'm not a huge anime fan, but i have seen what you're talking about with other things. like video games, movies, and music. i think the rage troll types really have no life, and probably no social skills. because of that, no friends in RL to discuss things with. i've met a few mega fanboy otaku type people, and they were fairly negative about everything, not just one subject. they have one favorite item from a genre, and compare everything else to it. since they love the one so much, nothing else can compete. star wars vs. star trek for example. i saw two nerds come to blows over which was better. to some people you can't like one with out hating the other.


but...this is all just my unproffesional opinion based on random observations.

Me and my friend dirtyone had the same conversation about which is better... me=star trek, him=star wars, we settle on the pussy factor in the series and real life. ie
add luke, han, and lando's vs. kirk, spock and riker on series sex life and avg it on what 10 chick said was better... winner trek just because kirk got more poon then han one cinnabun hair chick.

I just watch the show and enjoy it. I'm not very picky so as long as the show has a good plot, some decent acting, and no eye-raping animation I'll watch it without much complaint. I would lie if I said I didn't bitch about something now and again, but it doesn't happen often. Sometimes I also use those rants and criticisms by the viewers to decide if an anime is worth watching or not.

Yeah, I admit I get pissy and ranty too sometimes, but not to the extent others take it. I usually like to decide for myself if something is worth watching. A lot of animes I like other people really don't like. O_O



Yeah the value of an opinion is akin to dog-crap in the anime community. Of course that's not to say there aren't intelligent forum goers out there that actually have some good input and insight on a show.

Eh, I usually avoid Anime communities like the plague. Ever visit the onemanga forums? Chalked full of 12 year olds who praise their favourite series like it's the greatest thing since ever, and bash everything else. What irks me though, is people nitpicking. Even when a decent chapter or episode comes out, someone, somewhere, will find a reason to bitch. It's pretty annoying.

I never exactly found the reason to do so. Bitching and nitpicking won't change anything. I don't mind criticism, but when you constantly complain about every little detail, then I don't even see the reason why they should continue to read or watch.

I enjoy reading manga and watching anime. Bitching about it would take the joy away. As such, I don't like to bitch, though I can't say I never do. Though to me, I prefer to just drop a series I don't like. It's as simple as that.

Also, fucking weebs. I swear.

That's actually something that I might mention if it's bad, unless you actually mean artistic style rather than quality, then I don't see why people are being retards.



I have not actually logged on to any other anime communities other than Fakku. As for IRL communities, there is one at my local library and it seems to be more of a gamer than an anime club. There are some people there that I absolutely don't like. There are some supposed adults there who still insist on acting like a child. Also the shows that they play, I could just watch on my own time. I don't like watching anime with people anyway because of the the nonsensical talking and comments thrown everywhere.

I think it might have gotten worse.

Sounds like they don't like it when you enjoy what they don't like.

That said, mainstream stuff is usually the animes I like though, so that's one thing for me who doesn't watch much anime, I see the feedback by the community to decided if i would want to see it.

Lol, yes Anime communities is kinda "rotting" itself, with purist and elitist Fanboys/girls who will bash something that they don't think is normal and at the same standards with their favorite anime.

some of them "Bash" Amagami and now Yosuga no Sora, just because it's in a omnibus format. "They" wished for Love Polygons... ROFL.

Can't we all enjoy anime as it is without nitpicking?

It's all about the experience. Higurashi no naku koro ni made m get up from my chair, shout at the screen in excitement. That was my best experience, even if the animation does get flawed a bit, it doesn't bother me.
If there are bad voice actors (there aren't much for a japanese dub) then it would put me off, but not a good enough reason to start complaining lmao.
I like slice of lifes. People start complaining about the no action, but it's all down the experience, the laughs, personal identification etc.
If some anime has plot flaws, then this usually puts me off to stay with the anime after i've watched it. I would still enjoy what they gave me, but sometimes I just can't stay with it afterwards.

Getting back on topic, I believe the internet has something to do with the increasing number of "complaints" from anime viewers. Although I cannot be sure, some users criticize a particular title because they want to stand out from the norm. The above does not only apply to anime; even if something is seemingly perfect, there will be people attempting to nitpick.

Couldn't have said it better - I too believe this has more to do with the Internet in general, than the specific community - in this case anime. The anonymity encourages folks to be far more critical and sometimes just plain rude, then they would otherwise. And while I don't disagree with Gambler that some folks criticize (especially popular opinions) just to stand out, I also believe that there is a group out there who define what it is to be a fan way too tightly, they seem obsessed with whether a particular view or opinion fits into their tightly held definition, hence they hate dubs (but have a long list of dubs they watch), hate any of the popular series (i.e. Naruto, Bleach, One Piece) and just about any other subject you care to mention.

IMHO its pretty easy to recognize these folks because their responses and behavior is almost 100% predictable - personally, once I have identified them, I tend to just dismiss anything they have to say.

I agree. My opinion is that if you don't like a series, back it up with some actual facts in a respectable manner. Don't just say, "Oh, this series sucks."

As for how I review anime, I tend to look at all of the different aspects to it, while enjoying it at the same time. If there's something I didn't like about an episode, I will say it, but I will say it in a mature manner.
