Top 6 Romance Anime!

Basically list your top six romance themed Anime! It can be a comdey, drama, action, or whatever you like as long the story centers around character romantic relationships! Maybe tell us why you like one over the other too!

List them in the order of your favorite or say "in no particular order" so I can count them up and make them into a list of top Romantic anime!

Get to it! Maybe I'll put a little extra effort into this and make a lite version of KLoWns Fakku Recommends! VN thread if I get a lot of responses.

Let's see...

1. Clannad: Favorite anime, and the romance between Nagisa and Tomoya is beautiful.
2. Chobits: The first manga I really got into, and it showcases true, pure love.
3. Kimi ni Todoke: I love the relationship between Sawako and Kazehaya, and I love watching it grow.
4. Amagami SS: I like the aspect of Junichi having different possible romantic partners, and each of the plot lines and love interests are unique.
5. Maid Sama: It's so cute to watch Misaka and Usui gradually develop feelings for each other.
6. Spice & Wolf: Horo and Lawrence are just so perfect together.

Just gotta say, I seriously love Spice and Wolf and I really tried to fit it on my top 6.

I was thinking about being lazy and just listing a whole bunch of Key animations but no, I actually made an effort so here we go...

My Top 6:

3) Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien

4) Please Twins!

5) School Days

6) Shuffle!

This man speaks the truth. It's the best comedy/romance/drama out there. All of you, watch it.




Kimi Ga sure is a funny anime.

God I love Shuffle! too... it was my first Romantic comedy (and drama... omg the drama...) that I ever watched.

Don't really watch a whole lot of Romance animes but quite a few with romance as an element (not the main thing).

Otherwise I think Shuffle! is the best romantic anime I've ever watched.

5cm per second left me with a bitter feeling. Same with Saikano (not sure how to feel afterwards).

Hehe. I had a little trouble deciding between that and REC for my final spot.

Haven't really watched a lot of romantic animes, but

1. Clannad - pure epicness, in a different league from the rest
2. Love Hina - prefer the manga, anime's not that good
3. Vandread - first romance anime I ever watched, still pretty good
4. Toradora - cute characters, predictable story though
5. Zero no Tsukaima - just saying it to fill the 5th spot, but it's not that bad

I know there aren't very many responses yet, but I'm going to be sad if nobody else says Nodame Cantabile :(

3. Full Metal Panic! - Not really a rom/com-drama, but it does kinda center around Sousuke's and Kaname's relationship.
4. Toradora
5. Hatsukoi Limited
6. Kanon (Not as much the anime as the VN though)

Sorry. :( That series is on my To-Watch list, though!

My list in no particular order: (strictly anime)

1. Clannad - and there's a reason why everyone thinks this series is ballin.
2. Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora
3. Voices of a Distant Star - a Makoto Shinkai work...
4. Toradora!
5. Itazura na Kiss
6. Byousoku 5 Centimeter - yet to be revisited by Makoto Shinkai again. He's a movie-anime god

I chose these anime as the ultimate expressions of romance of any sort.

1. Clannad spent 2 seasons building the romance between Tomoya and Nagisa, and when she and Ushio died, I was crying, hard. It was developed so well that I was able to empathasize with the characters to the point of tears. Clannad is simply an epic anime, no doubt about it.

2. Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora is a short 6 episode OVA series that takes place in a hospital with two sick teen patients. It weaves beautifully the human outlook on life while having a budding romance blossom.

3. Voices of a Distant Star is a one episode OVA that does nothing but truly grasp “love” through not only distance but time as well. It is simple, yet brilliant, and very touching. The kicker is that the main characters’ voices are voiced by Makoto Shinkai himself and his wife, which makes the OVA that much more poignant.

4. Toradora! Is a comedy sure, but wow, I’ve never quite seen a high school romance series that goes through the hoops like this series does. (Suzuka was one big headache…) If anything, this anime is almost an epitome of high school life and romance.

5. Itazura na Kiss is possibly the only series where the series chronicles romance from the dating stage and all the way down to post-marriage life. I felt really satisfied with this series and the development of romance between the two main characters.

6. Byousoku 5 Centimeter is a series of 3 episodes strung together in one movie that, like Voices of a Distant Star, chronicles love and how it fares against the passage of time and distance. Unlike Voices of a Distant Star, this movie was beautiful and bittersweet beyond comparison. Another flawless creation of Makoto Shinkai.

Clannad - pretty much standard at this point.

True Tears - Love the mystic of the story, very unique from other romance animes out there. Only gripe is that he choose the wrong girl!

Ef - a tale of memories - drama anime at its best.

White Album[/b] - some people like it some people don't, I loved it. It went where other romanced anime's didn't and created a sensational drama filled roller-coaster ride on the way. Its got the most creative and entertaining protagonist Ive ever seen.

KGNE - its all over the place but what can you say? It really gets to you.

Spice & Wolf/Lamune - now these anime's here, they're are what i love. There's hardly any real romantic action between the two protagonists except words and social interaction, its special in terms of this as its almost impossible to execute right.

What the hell. You guys are really sad people if those animes are among your top in comedy/dramas. While they would perfectly fit in a "your top dramas" thread, I find them very inadequate for a thread that asks for anime that combine good comedy, romance and drama. But to each his own I guess.

Clannad is a Love anime with comedy... it doesn't have the usual elements in a Love comedy genre, don't get it mixed up guys.

I see some of you guys are confused with this Genre generally.


Love comedy is more like The Love parts are influenced by the comedy itself. Like your usual "cliched bumping", "first kiss obstacles", and many "Love interests that will bother the main Couple from having a moment for themselves". and I don't see those in Clannad, elfen Lied, saikano, EF. It's is funny, but it's not Love Comedy.
Those DO Have comedy in them, but are you sure they're Love Comedy

@gameon: seriously White Album, I know it has love, but Comedy? If it's the one of the most best Drama anime, I can agree, but as a Love Comedy? I don't see that... >_>

5 - Like every fairy tale, Paradise Kiss had everything going for it, ultimately culminating to a happily ever after -- except with the prince charming out of the picture.

4 - It can’t be helped (“Shikata ga nai desu.”) SHE, The Ultimate Weapon is one of the most tragic love stories ever told which was fortunate enough to be adapted into anime.

2 - If you have seen Maison Ikkoku and didn’t even consider it while making your top 6, you must be a bigger (love) cynic than I am. If you haven't, I've got nothing else to say to you.
