What has happened to American Animation?

Bluth was old.

Tartakovsky was shafted.

Vasquez was in a mental institution, last I heard.

Got a problem with Adventure time? I rather enjoy that show for the very little I actually watch. Manages to stay consistent in its humor and its art style fits it quite well.

Avatar: The Last Airbender, the new Thundercats, Young Justice, Ben Ten, Generator Rex, Star Wars Clone Wars, The Looney Tunes Show are the ones that set the standard for this generation. The problem isn't these shows. The problem is the drop off after them. It becomes abysmal, animation wise and story wise.

I had pretty much given up on modern western animation until Friendship is Magic, since most of it is crap. The most surprising thing about it is not that it's a good MLP cartoon, but that's a good western cartoon made after 2000.

The only one afterwards that I liked was, yes, Adventure Time. I've only seen one episode so far (really should watch more), but it's already much better than most of the garbage that calls itself "cartoon". Sure, it's art is not very good, that actually put me off at first, but it works and fits very well and that's the most important thing.

There have been plenty of great cartoons made after 2000. Friendship is Magic is one of them, but there were many good ones before it came into existence. Adventure Time is good and while it's art isn't great there are worse cartoons out there. Like Gumball, Secret Mountain Fort Awesome, and The Problem Solverz are three of the worst cartoons to come out of the last year, not only by art but by the humor too.

Almost all american cartoons are aimed at kids... are you a kid? No, then that basically answers why you don't enjoy them. Art on the other hand, as long as it's pretty and colorful, kids don't give a crap.

I hate all the newer versions of old good cartoons e.g. Tom and Jerry - no longer as violent and not funny, and the actual newer animation looks terrible but I guess that's just because I grew up with the older animation. Still, stop it.

OT: The only reason for people not liking the newer cartoons is because they grew up with cartoons aimed at their generation - what they grew up with. You're not a child growing up with the current cartoons; they aren't aimed at you. Technology has to embrace the change in times and that brings about new ideas - so they use them. In this case, the result: (shit) cartoons.

I never liked American cartoons from the start (Tom and Jerry are excepted).
But to see the quality to degrade this much is a shame, really.

I think Megas XLR was a great show and had no idea why it was canceled. Same with Symbiotic Titan.

American citizens ask for much more pay then other countries do. So instead of going back to the classics like Johnny Bravo, the original Looney Toons, and Tom and Jerry we went with alternatives that save money and fill in time slots.

The problem is cartoons used to appeal to the whole family, both kids and adults alike could enjoy what their children were watching. These days it's all for kids. There are some decent kids shows on though, like the new Thundercats, Ben 10, Young Justice, Transformers Prime, etc.

Honestly, I really enjoy Adventure Time and Gumball. Sure, the art's not so great, but they're pretty hilarious. They usually get a laugh out of me when I watch some of the episodes. Also, back to the topic of art, I think Adventure Time and The Amazing World of Gumball are actually quite decent compared to shows like Almost Naked Animals or whatever it's called and The Problem Solvers. The artwork for those shows are just plain atrocious.

The amount of viewers of animated series in America is very low, if it had the amount of people watching as say reality tv (beyond stupid) the quality would go up.

Looking at Adventure Time makes me wonder how we went from Tom & Jerry, Loony Toons, Hannah Barbara and Cartoon Cartoons (Ed Edd n Eddy, Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo, Cow and Chicken, powerpuff Girls) and the superb DC Animated universe to what barely constitutes a cartoon. The ebst example of how cartoons are changing is Spongebob, Great at first, iffy but still enjoyable in the middle and crappy and over used in the end.

I stopped watching TV close to 2 years ago so im out of the look, but from what I have watched so far it seems to be going downhill.

In American cartoon these days the characters act like 6 year olds with no brain whatsoever and they scream every-fucking-time they speak!
Ofc there some anime that's exactly the same but in terms of anime you have a wide variety of choices!
But in the cartoons the only choice you have is to watch screaming kids in shitty quality.

The only decent one is Adventure time but the animation in it sucks, so idk anymore.

I wish the 90's cartoon was brought back!

I like... Teen Titans, Avatar the Last Airbender and it's soon-to-be sequel series The Legend of Korra, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, The Batman, Ben 10, Adventure Time... etc.

I haven't watched western animation in a very long time so I'm not sure about current shows. The shows I do remember enjoying were Megas XLR, Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, and Teen Titans from time to time.

I just remembered this show called "Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi", I never found it interesting but thinking back it was probably the first time I heard Japanese. Has anyone else seen this show and did you like it?
