Well I don't know anybody, in real life, who also watches anime so I'm just
trying to see if others share my sentiments. I won't say I'll never watch anime ever again, it's just I feel no desire to download and watch a new series. Once an a blue moon I'll watch some of the classic stuff stored on my HDD, to destress.
Stuff I'll still watch now and then:
Nodame Cantabile
GITS
Armitage 3
Akira
GTO
Working
Ouran High School Host Club
Initial D (Made me buy my Nissan 240SX I love her :-)
Kimi Ga Nozumo Ein
Some of my reasons:
1.) After watching anime for the past 8yrs, everything just seems recycled: The same story lines following the same old formula (See Clannad - other than some decent music here and there, I can't see why this crap is so popular). Very seldom something comes along to break the mould i.e. Death Note, but lately nothing special.
2.) As the years went on my hatred for cutesy loli characters with high-pitched voices, and meek silent types grew exponentially. Furthermore I found myself not feeling too great with the fact that I'm watching an anime about high school when I myself graduated 7 years ago.
3.) The past 2-3 years I haven't been watching much anime. After watching the 1st ep of Nisemonogatari I thought "Ok, I don't understand 70% of this dialogue I've had enough" and I haven't watched anything since. I think to truly enjoy that show and many others you must BE Japanese. I think certain stuff just gets lost in translation and only a Japanese person will get it.
4.) Relating to my first point, I'm starting to have a big problem with the habit of the Japanese to pigeon-hole people into "types" and putting them into "tried and tested plots" like fixed variables in a standard equation. This doesn't just relate to anime.
5.) I'm not homophobic, but the fairly light-hearted way that themes such as pedophilia, homosexuality, gender bending and incest come across leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Once again, I'm not judging anyone, but I don't want my perceptions to be altered to the point where I can tolerate watching things with these themes.
I could write some more, but I'm tired.
Any comments or ideas are welcome. BTW, I manga and Jdrama fall in this discussion too.
if you cant watch anime, then go into gaming if you cant go into gaming you must lock yourself into your room to watch anime...nuff said
