Why is female yandere accepted, but not male?

It seems as though a large group of people like yandere girls in their doujins/animes. In case you didn't know, yandere is:
It is generally accepted for the girl in a relationship to be Yandere, however, when the guy has those traits, it is looked down upon.
I would like your opinion on why that is.

Honestly, I never knew that yandere was looked down upon in males. I personally love yandere in females just as much as I love it in males. Mao from Code Geass was yandere and I never looked down on him...

There is one male yandere I can think of and that's Allelujah from Gundam 00. The yandere part is where Hallelujah kicks in.

I guess "yandere for girls seems hot, while yandere for guys is bad" is how most will look at it.
