you see..the thing is...some of these people actually think they look good in these atrocities...

only a select few can really cosplay and look like the chars

even if ur smokin hot, that ain't worth that much if you don't look like the one you're dressing up as.

Also be aware that cosplay isn't just anime or game characters.

It is normal costumes too, like a bunny suit (no not playboy bunny suits but that counts too, i mean a bunny costume) or school uniforms, swimsuits, maid outfits, fetish gear, period dress and a maybe on dressing like a certain stereotype.

Men cosplaying as women characters is a cross between a whiff of Axe cologne and the smell of ass. It's nauseating and can make anthrax look harmless. They all look like Bruno.

I cosplay as male characters. Last time I did cosplay I did Yamato from Naruto.

It depends...I ran into a Dawn/Hikari (from pokemon) cosplayer, who was really good. What freaked me out was that it turned out to be a guy.

Well, maybe a little consideration can be excused for the guys. Women often cosplay as guys (I saw a lot of Zero-costumed women in the last cosplay expo I was in) so why not vice-versa for the guys? As long as their "physique" can withstand the limits of sanity.

Once while I was cosplaying as a Shinigami, I saw a really tall girl cosplaying as Maggie in ROD TV. She definitely looked the part. When I tried to find her later for my usual two-person pics, I noticed that she was a "he"... and we met in the men's room and he was in the wall urinal next to mine. He's almost bishounen, but he said he just inherited his mother's facial structure that made him.. um... feminine-looking, and says his fiancee didn't mind his cosplaying variety.

Maybe it's somewhat true what Natsuki Takaya wrote in Fruits Basket, that "women take after their fathers and guys after their moms". Can be disproven, but sometimes it's true in a few cases.
