The mainstream tech platforms and payment processors are doing this to protect themselves from potential legal problems. I do not agree with going scorched earth on porn (I think it's an absolute bullshit move, yet another reason I hate major tech platforms), but no major platform been willing to hire a big enough moderation team to verify that content being uploaded is legal or not.
Its pisses me off to no end that all types of explicit content get lumped together. Like sure, some of the stuff on Fakku might not be legal in some countries, which is why we can opt to hide controversial content, but it makes zero fucking sense that drawings get conflated with real people.
I have to disagree on one point though. It's not that major platforms aren't willing to hire massive moderation teams. It's that in most cases, especially with porn sites that take the youtube approach to uploading, it's logistically impossible to hire and pay enough moderators to take care of such massive volumes of content. I hate to say it but, the only feasible way to avoid illegal pornography is to have a zero-tolerance policy, or to make age verification mandatory for uploaders, which we've already seen happen with tumblr and pornhub respectively.
Yeah and thats what I mean when I say they arent willing to hire the moderation teams; its because the sites become so big that they become impossible to moderate all content, shoulda worded that better. I don't disagree with the approach of having it be age verification to post stuff personally, not a big fan of the zero-tolerance policy though.
As for all adult content being lumped together? Well, thats the way the cookie crumbles, my guy. Alotta these people get their news from sensationalist media, left or right, and make a judgement call from that rather than actually doing their own investigations.
