As far as I know, we haven't change anything in our dealings with Amazon, so it's likely just the way they list pre-order items.
Ah. So about the other books that are available now - guess they actually purchased some copies. Like "Thicker than Water" by gy, actually has on its page mentioned how many copies are left (12 at the moment of writing) that are sold&shipped by Amazon. Guess they took a liking or someone in the acquisitions department is a fan lol
Short answer, no. The free copies are not "free" for us, as we still pay royalties etc. for these items. The reason we're willing to take this financial hit is because we can avoid additional service fees when not using a third-party retailer, which somewhat balances it out in the end. Naturally it also serves as a reward for users who support us directly. As such, it's unlikely we'll ever offer free digital copies for physical goods sold outside of our own storefront.
Got it. Strange that didn't cross my mind. I noticed similar "wishes" being expressed by other members here too. But it seems like an obvious answer, considering the expenses.
Thanks a lot for making great books available to us. It's like a dream come true.
