well. i supposed you can show that hentai is not like the most people think, just a porn cartoon with tentacles and other disgusting(tentacles, demon)/creepy(bondage, loli)/sick(rape, incest) things. you can show the other side of hentai too. show that hentai is not only about the sex scene, but also the story and art.
anyway, i don't know about west coast, but hentai in here(seattle) is pretty popular. i noticed how almost every entertainment shop (for example: for your entertainment) always have special shelf labeled adult porn(which basically hentai) and there are a tons of title there. i guess there are a lot of demand here.
Even big chains, like FYE carry it around here.
(Although, my only experience otherwise is with one in Virginia... so that could be common everywhere else)
I would highlight some of the non-porn genres available, Love stories are common... Action happens, but usually boils down to sex (let's try to find one with decent action that doesn't). Comedy is also common, but many of the jokes are based upon this being porn..... Maybe this train of thought goes nowhere, but it's another idea.
OH, a "hentai" with sex in the backseat: Mezzo Forte. It's more noir themed, with sex used where appropriate (instead of as the main event). It's not terribly good porn, but I think it's a shining example for where I would like story to go.
