Well, first off, let me say "Thanks for hosting a panel and trying to take this subject with at least a little seriousness." Too many anime conventions have this unspoken rule of "Do not talk about animated porn. If you must talk about it, remember: it's all rape, girls with dicks, and demons with tentacles raping girls with dicks."
Subjects for discussion/review:
* Censorship. I know, it's a subject that gets beaten to death, but I really think there are a lot of people out there who simply haven't heard the whys and hows. Do remember not to perpetuate the idea that Western influence got Japan to mandate censorship in porn - that was something that has been on Japanese law books since the Tokugawa shogunate, and possibly much earlier.
* Dub quality, or lack thereof. This is one of the biggest genuine complaints I have and hear about H anime that gets licensed and distributed in the U.S. For a long time, the only VAs who would do a role in an H anime were actual porn queens; I'm not sure, but this may still be the case. Also, the scriptwriters who get hold of an H anime title often carve up the script and rewrite it to suit their whims (and you know how I feel about rewrites!), as well as changing the title to something silly.
(On the other hand, riffing on the horribad dubbing can be a total blast. Highly recommended.)
* The role of doujinshi in the manga and anime industry. There are lots of talented and popular mangaka who got their start drawing porn (ex.: Hirano Kouta, author of Hellsing), and many who still draw ero doujinshi and such as a side job (ex.: Hiroe Rei, author of Black Lagoon, who is still a prolific ero doujinshi mangaka under the circle name TEX-MEX).
* For that matter, make it a point to remind everyone that not all doujinshi is manga, or even pornographic. "Doujinshi" just means it was independently published, and it's a term that applies whether it's an original work or a fan-work, whether it's manga, music albums, games, whatever. Try to help clear this misunderstanding up.
* Again, try to also drive home the reminder that not all Japanese drawn or animated porn is rape, tentacles, girls with improbably huge breasts or cocks growing where they shouldn't, or little girls being molested. Plenty of it is sweet, loving, and heartwarming, and some of it actually has decent plotting.
* Speaking of porn with plot (or vice-versa), the eroge scene. Type-Moon, Nitroplus, and their works. Various licensors of eroge in the Western world (J-List and their associates, MangaGamer, et al), what they do right and what the consumers feel needs to change. Discuss these.
* As uncomfortable a subject as it is for pretty much the entire H industry, piracy. I'll leave the handling of this up to you, of course.
* One of the most important things to do at a panel like this is to budget plenty of time for audience Q&A, possibly even an open-mic segment. It's always good to let audience members get a chance for clarification on a subject.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to join you all for this one. Travel is not in my budget this year. :(
