Watching a few videos (that admittedly explain the game quite well) really can't be considered trying it... Didn't seem to be something I'd really like, though.

Not directly, no, like with most games in the series. Skyward Sword is made to be the prequel to all Zelda games anyway.

The settings feels so old like Mario with all the princess needs to be saved from evil kinda story, but... At least it's not some dumb jumping around games like Mario~ with it being 3D like this, it should be fun
