Just depends on what looks nice, try different styles out and see what you get as a result, the hexagons sounds intersting to me personally. I've been enjoying slowly learning how to make my own sigs, badges and banners from time to time (^^)

Also, Sneaky and Data Zero could help out some with tips and pointers, they're pretty good at stuff like that!
