It's sad people will point out at bs like this and then claim every who disagrees with them is like this while dismissing any actual criticism towards any aspect or form of feminism.
Agreed. The concept is simple thou. Treat women with the same rights as men, but yet it seems to be a very difficult thing to do. Maybe because of the 'women are weaker than men' thing.
Last thing I remembered that would've made feminist smile a bit was the veteran home for women back in 2011 (I think).
Feminism is not about treating women with the same rights as men. It's not about equal rights. It's about improving womens rights and ignoring, and sometimes hindering, mens rights. You don't see feminists protesting alimony or trying to get women into military conscription. Feminists will talk about rape all day long but never mention the huge amount of false accusations of rape.
No it's not...not? You are describing the techniques used by every civil rights movement ever. The whole goddamned point is to change the reality of the discrimination faced by the underclass in question.
Any and everything beyond that is either raising awareness (so others can get a more honest take) or trolls trolling trolls. (my girlfriend calls it "tumblr")
This claim of "discrimination" against women seriously depends where you live. In most western countries women are not an underclass by any stretch, when the reality is that there are many areas where men are the underclass (specifically in USA) such as child custody, criminal convictions (men serve more time for same crimes) and forced military enrollment.
For many the biggest criticism of feminism is that they claim to be a movement for gender equality, when it is obvious that the movement solely focuses on womens issues.
I have nothing against a group that focuses on raising the awareness of issues women face, but don't disguise it as 'gender equality for both sexes.'
Oh sweet Christ....
First and foremost, the second statement is an abject falsehood. Not only is the entirety of the Western world cut from a patriarchal mode, but you need a new definition for underclass. Let's try something basic:
You live in a society where there are humans, other cognisant apes, and androids possessing artificial intelligence. This society has expanded the basic rights of life and property to nonhuman entities, and has passed laws making it illegal to discriminate against any class of life-form.
However, the apes on the large live in thickly packed slums. If a human approaches to ask if they will move because of the conditions of their habitat, they get defensive and pledge to die before leaving.
The androids have an unemployment rate 230% larger than the human unemployment rate. A national survey emerges saying that the cost of living for an android is only $1400 a month.
Which of these two minorities is an underclass? What are the possible causes to their predicament? Should the situation they find themselves in be tolerated because one group "wants to stay" and another "doesn't need as much?"
What if I told you that the Apes asked the city for subsidies to develop vertical gardens for more trees? And that the Androids demanded that major employers hire them in proportion to population demographics? Are these requests unreasonable? Why?
What I'm trying to get both of you to do is to see beyond the initial impression of the problems facing people in the US and abroad. The actions of civil rights movements, including feminism, address both the symptom and the problem---rather than covering their heads and waiting for shit to get better.
Without legal protections, my girlfriend and I would not be alive (both mixed). I wouldn't be able to have joined the service---and would never have gone to college. She would not be getting the unemployment cheque after her boss fired her for not acting sweet to him. And the president would be selling your country off to your face rather than in secret.
Shit would be fucked.
As the nature of racism, homophobia, and sexism changes, and discrimination follows, the efforts of people who seek social equality needs to follow suit as well. It's a cold fact.
(That is, until the revolution comes.)
