"lollazyfag" isn't unnecessary, it's what he(chlor) thinks, using prettier words wont change his opinion, nor the fact that it was the op's lack of "something" that cost the him his chance. If he studied hard and still didn't manage to pass then he didn't study hard enough, or properly(like asking for help with things you cant understand).

Really? I have to explain the hand jobs comment? I know it's not "hand jobs for heart ache", I stated he posted it in IB and not the chat section so I clearly acknowledged he doesn't want a friendly round of hand jobs to make him feel better... how did you manage to misunderstand that?

No one ever said trying to cheer him up was wrong, you're the one who's criticizing another's opinion because you felt it was harsh and "unnecessary". So why is it alright to cheer him up but not alright to splash him in the face with reality?

I understand that sometimes people need a dose of reality, It just felt vastly more inflammatory and trollish than useful. I literally thought he was just saying it to be an asshole, and nothing else. You and I both know there are many different ways to convey the same opinion, you don't have to make a big show of how little you think of the person to get across that you feel they need to man up, you know?

Nothing is really useful in this situation... we aren't an academic review board, we don't know his situation well enough to give him any real advice, this is a forum about cartoon pornography. So people toss out offhand comments and make assumptions about the situation, and sometimes those comments are more direct than you're accustomed to(in real life).

And yes, sometimes a demeaning/harsh tone is required to kick someone into gear. I can't tell you how many times I belittled slayer in the hopes that he would one day embarrass Canadians less, and while I wont admit it's perfect now he is far less of an embarrassment than he was 6 months ago.

You felt what Chlor said was too much, so you gave a "hug" and tried to make him feel better; opposing views are great like that, he got a hug and a kick in the ass. Just don't call someone out based on how you would feel in a situation, an emotional response you feel may not be what the op feels... unless you're alright with defending your point, because people(like me) will jump on you.

Dev used to like when I would roast someone so I'm not sure if he's enjoying the camp fire right now or not but it seems we've reached the end of where this discussion can go, I look forward to clashing with you again some time.

Firstly, thank you for that thoughtful response. I get what you're saying, really.. I do, I myself have given many a friend some much-needed uncomfortable honesty. I guess... for me, it's more of a.. context-based thing. I just.. don't see much use in demeaning someone who's already feeling pretty beat down, you know? I mean, I know whenever I fail a test, I say the kinds of things to myself that Chlor said to him, so I try to respond to others the way I'd want someone to respond to my plight - not necessarily removing all personal responsibility [although I can see how my response can be misconstrued as such], It's just instinct for me to sympathize when someone tries at something and fails.

I could probably be considered very naive for this, but I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt when they tell me they really tried at something. But, I completely get what you're saying about him asking for help where/when necessary, so.. I concede a bit to that. -shrug- I hope you won't find fault with me if I just.. never sour to the point of being the type of person to opt for berating over encouraging. I'll still give a reality check when applicable, but apparently.. it's just not as often or as harsh as others would.

Perhaps I should add that the internet and real life are quite different, I understand the need to hold back on the harshness in the real world, but not over a forum... not when we're just strangers through a series of tubes. Your way of dealing with things has it's place, I just don't think that place is IB.

Ain't there some other way to be accepted into w/e University you want to apply to? Even Australia should have something like an admission test or subject test that could be used instead of/along with your standard admission points?

I apreciate what Lolli did, I really do. It's nice to see someone actually gave me some sweet words even though we don't know each other IRL.

At the same time, I really do need harsh words from Waar and Chlor, so I can face reality head on.

All of you did, at the end of the day, helped me move on forward and accept what I got and what I really deserve, when I thought I deserved more. To be honest, I do need both kind of sweet words to ease me up and harsh words to help me understand what reality has to offer.

I'm gonna change my preferences, as these guys said, it's not the end of the world. I still have a chance of going to RMIT (the uni I wanted), but if things don't work out I'm gonna go to Deakin Uni or Swinburne Uni, which is not half bad.
