It's in our genes.
When we see a baby, their "cute" characteristics were due to evolution.
A person sees a cute thing, he/she feels the need to protect it. Doing so helps individual to survive. In other words it is an advantage to ensure our survival.

Thus, in conclusion, our appeal to cute things is in our genes, yet not everybody will have the same result.
Consider how some children their newborn siblings in a negative light. It's not just jelousy, it's also competition for food and social status.

I asked cuz I don't like cute things. I don't like cute at all and so I don't get it. That being the case its obviously not in my genes. I have heard the protect thing before so perhaps that is the reason
