Not My Brightest

So I just downloaded GameMaker Studio.
Shoulda known that it'd be beyond me. I don't understand this gibberish.

Anyone with programming knowledge show me the ropes?

It'll probably take more than just showing the ropes to effectively make a game.

I tried using RPG Maker after playing Yume Nikki and Ib and realized you still need to be able to draw if you're going to make your own sprites.
So maybe later when I'm less lazy.

There's anonymous, and there's people.
I trust people.

Drawing is the least of my concerns.

You'll need to read up on your C/C++/Java/Python, not sure what it uses. On top of that you'll need a shit load of sprite packs and other files. You've got yourself one tall order, Jacky boy.

Getting a job making games would be pretty sweet.

How many years do you have to devote to it?
Actually, let me change this.
How many decades do you have to devote to it?

I...what?
People who makes guides, videos and quick guides are people too.
Do you mean you want some sort of reliable feedback as you go along instead?
And as someone mentioned earlier you need some knowledge in programming. You can try looking for textbooks for beginners(there are plenty of free legal digital copies out there).
There's also places like Khan academy. I think...they might have forums to discuss programming too.

I meant that I could either slog through the hordes of possibly conflicting or no longer relevant random things from a buncha strangers that I couldn't give less than two atoms of shit about, or I could refer with people I know, and that I know all are very likely to know more about anything regarding computers than I do.

Aye.
Curse me and my middling self; never quite sporty enough to be a jock, never quite dorky enough to be a nerd.

Game maker is actually pretty easy to get used to. We used to play with it back in year 8.
It can get to be a pain in the ass though. The coding is all pretty simple stuff though. Game maker is quite limiting on what you can do though. From memory you can make better games in java.
But, java is a bitch

Knowledgeable with computers =! Knowledgeable in any program
And as for that first statement, it just seems like you're making excuses for yourself. I mean you already have interest in it and you're already dipping your toes into unknown waters. Eventually you're going to hit a wall but at least you have to put yourself out there first.
Mess around with the program first, and try getting some fundamental knowledge on programming.
I know I sound a bit preachy and even a bit condescending, but don't act like a helpless puppy.

I.
Do not.
Know.
Programming.
Again, I'd prefer it if someone I knew pointed me in the right direction.
And I know that you may not be computer whizzes- but y'all certainly are compared to me.
Only the Amish know less than I do regarding such things.

If you don't want to learn programming from the ground up then it's pointless trying to throw yourself into the fray. Even if you did produce a result, it'd be littered with bugs and inefficient code that you would lack the understanding to debug or improve. There is no "pointing you in the right direction". You learned to draw through time dedicated to practicing your art from the ground up of many different styles over the course of many pictures. The same applies to programs.
If you're really serious about learning programming aspects, climb back down the mountain you just skydived midway up onto and learn some basic fundamentals of programming in a few different languages, then move onto scripting, and then onto this game creating kit's language.
If you don't want to do that, be like 90% of other game makers and form a team. Plenty of people can program as well as how you draw and draw as well as how you program. There's no sense in slaving away yourself only to produce a half baked result.

Its been a while since ive seen shit that understand here.
Your going to need some C++/Java/Python/ experience if your going to write a game in that language.
I recommend you go to college and enjoy the torment with me.

Well, I literally just told you not to make excuses for yourself and to open up a book first before asking for help.
Put it into perspective then, rule out all the inactive people on Fakku, then all those who know some programming, then rule out the ones who are good and have lots of experience, then those who have experience with this particular program. Then you have to rule out the ones who are willing to take the time out of their hands to help someone who's basically clueless about programming and wants their hand held through the whole process.
It's cool that you want to learn something and acquire new skills, but you have to put yourself out there, go to a program/tech site and charm them over so they can take you through the whole process.

Well, as I said... It's a pretty limiting program, but it's fairly easy. I can't remember shit, but it's a lot of 'if' sequences... 'if sprite 1 interacts with sprite b = yes
Then run 'game over'
or something along those lines... Been a few years man... probably close to 6 years since I played with it.
See if you can find any teachers books on the subject... It was taught to us in it class... We got a book about the basics, which told us how to make basic things.
Which reminds me; Visual basic is hitler.
