The thing that pisses me off about K-On? That it overshadows other music anime/manga IE Beck and Kids on the Slope. The overlooked series don't have QT girls. K-On is like dessert and Beck/Kids on the slope is like a home cooked meal. K-On gets into the music for bits and pieces of the first season and kinda throws it out the window becoming Lucky Star with instruments. The other series I've mentioned gets balls deep into the music and stays there as far as the anime goes mind you. I've never read the manga so I may not be totally accurate.
To nearly parrot what you've said, there are inaccuracies in how they play. Hell, look at the God Knows performance in Haruhi Suzumiya. Nagato's fingers are on the same frets they would be on actual guitar when playing the song. Could be because of budget or the animators had the mindset of cute girls > music.
K-on isn't a music anime. It's an anime with music in it. Anyone watching Sakamichi no Apollon could see that both the music and story are infinitely better, the charm of K-on isn't in the music or the plot, both are whimsical, people like K-on because it's cute girls doing cute things. I mean for gods sake the show is practically; Teatime: The Animation.
And in that sense it makes no sense for you to say it overshadows other music anime, because no one in their right mind is watching K-On for the music, if they wanted to watch an anime about music they would watch Beck or Sakamichi no Apollon. It seems to me what you're really complaining about is the fact that cute girls sell better than good music, which is something that's never going to change.
