Before you ask, I'd clarify that I haven't play any VN up until now, thought I do know what Canvas series are.

Oh, but if you are going to start I would recommend either Katawa Shojou (which is free and english) or G Senjou no Maou (which you will have to torrent and get the english patch). These two are good starter VNs.
