It means the MG is man portable and lighter than GPMG (General Purpose Machine gun) and MMG (Medium Machine gun) There is more emphasis with LMGs to be employed by single soldier. In addition it's common to use assault rifle cartridge but that is for modern LMGs and not a rule. There is also Heavy machine gun usually it was a crew served or mounted weapon.

We use MG-3 and KSP-58(which i consider a piece of scrap. During my time of servitude, i saw 2 of em break down completely) which are both chambered in 7,62. Those things are operated by 2 man squad (One with the LMG and MG assistant with AK-4) since both of em weight around 11-12 kilos and have a spare barrel with em. Or in MG-3 case, spare barrel and lock arms (? dont know english word for it. Traslation in long, the inner mechanism). And Ammo, so roughly both of em have around 15-20 kilos constantly on theyr back.
We have Browning M2HB. I like to see that sucker carried by a squad. I had to carry it through a swamp in Steadfast Javelin 2015 (Sill aka Hedgehog in our language) to our line of defence. We managed to sack a recon squad with it since we had 2 of them with overlapping firezones. By sceranio that was set by our leaders stated that we should lose but apperantly, KJP where I served didn't hold back in teaching and asskicking. A 10 man squad and mortar squad sacked a platoon with constant mortar fire. You can take a guess how well others did.
Our Line of defence held and we managed to "win" the battle. And back in our home, every Captain was happy. It was kinda creepy...
ALso should i make a similar thread like this one?
