thoughts on why america declared war on syria?

I was just so shock why a president that was anti war declared war.
I'm just a little bit skeptical with the chemical incident that happened to syria.
I mean I'm not a intelligent person but if you have been a president for a long time you should
have been able to know that illegal use of weapon of war will let america step up and declared war.
i just don't get the logic it's like killing people burning them alive or anything that isn't illegal at war
is ok and america will not step up but if it has a article in the rule that lawyers and other rule makers did
it is ok. i'm not sure why is this happening in the world anymore. can someone please explain to be what's really happening
to fully understand why this missle lunch attack is happening right now? what is the purpose? because before they killed
sadam hussien i believe when they came to investigate they reported back that there is not mass weapon of destruction
i've talk with my husband about this since he's in politics but he just brush me off seems like he isn't interested on it

The American people didn't even hear about the attacks until after they happened. We have no real power with our government, you can trust me on that. The government may want war, but I am certain the people are not so ready for it.

I am sure as hell not ready for WW3 to begin.

As for the government being a bunch of people like you or me, that is both true and false. Yes, biologically they're human, but morally they couldn't be closer to garbage than if they physically became such.

I know what you mean here in the Philippines we have the same government but now I believe my president now here and I think we will soon be aligned with china because of this issue. now Russian navy is now on the move it has been reported that Russian soldiers has been killed on the missile strikes not sure what's happening but i pray that this won't be the start of ww3. i just can't believe that some people can just kill people and wage war like that. i think this what happens when you put label on anything.

Why ww3. Syria can't even fight their own people without Putin red dick army help. Iran barely cares since Alawites are barely Shia. They only care because the us is backing the moderates and Kurds. No Russian died. China care nothing and North Korea is weaker than it's Neighbors and China's already pissed off at them anyway. Nothing was lost in the bombing. Syria still has it's shit MiGs. Just some towers and Communications were affected. Russia's Air Patrol Net is still up. Just big boom for 54 dead people killed by shit that was banned since 1917.

Nothing was lost in the bombing that took 59 tomahawk missiles. Syrian planes were in Iran. Just a useless base that was used to bomb innocent people for no good reason even though none of them were part of the opposition. Same thing happened in Iraq and Iran. If we didn't some EU plane or Turkish missiles would. Better us then Israel... that would have been World War 3.

The American people don't get to vote on these specific issues. Normally, such a declaration of war and attack would have to be approved by a majority of congress, the people we vote for. But over the last couple presidencies, the executive branch of government has given itself authority to do so. That being said the people in the US aren't entirely separate entities from their government, it's just not a 1:1 relation because there's so many different advocacy groups/special interest/law makers and interpreters(judges) that it's almost impossible for any of the thousands of governments in the US to be a true reflection of the people.

I also share your confusion as to why Trump would do this. He has openly opposed regime change and attacking Syria in the past. Assad isn't some peace/freedom loving leader but his interest did align with the Trump's administrations, mainly taking out ISIS and Al Qaeda (who openly celebrate the missile strike that happened yesterday).
Even if it's 100% true that Assad killed those civilians with chemical attacks, which I'm skeptical off, I don't see it as proper justification for US intervention and siding with the rebels.

First of all, to be perfectly fair, neither I nor Cruz can speak for the "majority" of Americans. Everything we say can only be mere conjecture about the public opinion.

However, in terms of what I can guess based on the situation, I am personally hesitant to believe Americans feel this is a welcome event, even if things do not turn south because of it.

Then again, anything is possible. We could want war (???) to boost our economy somehow (Though, it may actually end up being the exact opposite if we fight it like the last 3 wars we took part in).

I can only make wild guesses as to what most people in America feel, same with Cruz, or any other individual at this point. Not enough time has passed to create a general consensus or collect the opinions of the majority of Americans.

No, never apologize for merely asking something. You did nothing wrong, and your curiosity is definitely not incorrect. I doubt there will be a survey, but I do believe there will be public outcry against what happened.

But once again, never fear to ask questions. The worst that can happen is for people to be complete assholes to you for no reason, and then you don't really lose anything - you just gain the knowledge that they're a bunch of total assholes.

@Manes I hate duterte because of the extra judicial killings and just leaving the corpse of the said drug user on the street with straps and and sign of torture then hang it on the EDSA road that seems to be a little bit extreme i mean i saw literally a dead body before and people was gathering including me and got late because of it. i hate him even because of the jokes he do about saying guys no guy in the world slept with his wife only and some rude things he says on tv which is really unnecessary he curse alot on live tv too and the things he says about america but now i'm changing my mind a little bit
