Touhou Game Club

Well, it's only as difficult as SA until you figure out the whole... 3D aspect of the game. After that, it's pretty average difficulty, and you unlock Extra mode even if you complete the Very Easy difficulty without using a continue. But, the extra stage is insane. You have 2 midbosses, WLily and BLily, and Koishi is the Boss... which doesn't help with the whole "easier as soon as you figure out the 3D aspect". lol.

I would actually recommend the Suwako Cubic shmup and the Satori puzzle game. They're actually pretty good, for being fan-made games.

Ah the Civilization series. Its on the long list of games to get when I get a new desktop. If they declare independence peacefully just align yourself with them and wait for them to fight amongst themselves. At which point you pick the bones then reclaim what is yours.



It might be common to all hell shooters...

Do you think when making new games ZUN models the patterns (or lack thereof) after other hell shooters?

She looks like she saw something shocking in that picture. The "Eh?" helps. I havent read Wild and Horned Hermit yet but my impression of Kasen from her wiki entry is one that would fit with Byakuren.

Her temple must really be an interesting place. It feels like more of a hotel than temple though with Nue and that damn transforming tanuki lurking. Byakuren needs more screen time, she acts too peaceful to not be planning something. At least Kanako and Miko are clear in that they want to become leaders in Gensokyo, or at least initially. Byakuren is just like "oh I was resurrected, going to go be wall flower over there".

If everyone in Gensokyo were to play hide and seek and (naturally) Reimu is the one seeking. Who would be the hardest to find and/or not found at all? Who would be the first to be found?

I would guess Yukari, Nue, and the hermits would be the hardest or never found. Yukari because she can hide in the boundary of everything. Nue because she can make her location unidentifiable. The hermits because they can live in extremely small places.

Hong might be found sleeping somewhere. The loudmouth Yamabiko will be found easily too.

Marisa will do really well because she doesnt like losing.

Civ 4 can actually be ran off of pretty inexpensive software. When I play it, it only takes up about 1GB of RAM, and uses up about 25% of my CPU. Max.

The thing is, they don't fight amongst themselves, because they are all REALLY friendly with each other. Christianity, and all that jazz...

I doubt it since the outsiders (say, Marisa) refer to it as an old-fashioned place, even in Gensokyo's standard. Still, I'm very interested to see it thoroughly as well. Byakuren also, like what you said, acts too peaceful to not be planning something. I suppose she also has the desire like Kanako and Miko, but not as vocal as them in comparison. To support my assumption, look at the interview sections in Symposium, she was the most passive one.

To be fair, Byakuren is still (as Miko said) a nameless monk. So it's kinda expected for her to act 'hesitant'.

Hermits live in small place ? I thought they only tend to live in a faraway / hardly-reachable place ? Like for example, Kasen's dojo and Miko's unknown 'home'. For the hide and seek part, obviously either Nue or Mamizou would win considering the ghost is 'only' Reimu.

Seems pretty simple, once you read through that little Q&A on PoFV netplay. The only problem I would have, is telling what the ping is.

Current desktop: Pentium 4 2.4Ghz + 1GB RAM + GeForce FX 5200. It has IDE drives. Oh the pretty ribbons.

Current laptop: Turion X2 2.1GHz + 4GB RAM + Radeon 3200. It can run Empire at the lowest settings, so it can probably run Civilzation too. The problem is the hard drive is pretty full. 20GB free and the desktop has most of my data on it. [size=1]inb4 data hoarding.[/h]

Religion. It always gets in the way of world domination. There's an easy solution though, all the religious text in the world means nothing when a gun is at someones head. If they dissent your rule, they get a hole in their head. After enough holes are made the people will disperse. Since you are playing as ancient rome the hole should be replaced with "losing his/her head". Works great in games [size=1]only in games sadly.[/h]

Sakuya could decide to play ninja. If Remi played she might make her spot fairly obvious and lay trap for Reimu just to have some fun. Both of them would be hard to get.

Where would Cirno be to make herself easy to find?

Gensokyo's standard is something like the 1800's in Earth's perspective right? So old-fashioned from that perspective is, really old. Compared to Kanako and Miko, Byakuren is a generic monk/magician so maybe she felt out of place in Symposium.

If I ever visited Gensokyo, Byakuren is someone I would want see quickly because she wouldn't try to kill me. That said, getting to the temple to see her would mean getting killed.

Well... I think Civ 4 and it's expansion packs take up about 4GB of space...

The thing about taking their heads, is as I said earlier. If I go to war with them when they try to declare independence, they make my military defect. If I go to war with them after they declared independence, they have a more advanced military then me. (stupid rules about starting technologies and the rate in which you discover the techs.)

Cirno would be easy to find, because she would either rush at you to fight you, forgetting completely about the game, or if she still remembers about the game, you can find her by the temperature in the air.

How exaggerated is fanon usually? Yuyuko eating everything in sight was based on a couple lines of in game dialogue in IN right? Stuff like that makes for funny sketches but it gets out of hand when entire stories are based on it.

Thats exactly what someone with the limitless mental capacity of Cirno would do. You can't be found if you aren't hiding. A similar method might work with Rumia and a flashlight.

I'm not prepared to lose miserably again. Especially not in PoFV.

Well... I don't really know. Within the last few pages, Jenkins said something about fanon and canon... Mostly when I said that Tenshi is a masochist, which is complete fanon... I think.

For Rumia, it would depend on the time. If it's the daytime, she'll be really easy to spot. During nighttime, but not during the full-moon, nearly impossible. During a full moon (based on eyewitness reports) you would be able to find her, if slightly difficult. Another two easy people to find would be Mystia and Wriggle, for obvious reasons.

Well, I've been using a controller for PoFV, and apparently, to use adonis to play together, you have to set the controls to your keyboard only... I don't know how well I'd do, since it still is very difficult to hit a button/key rapidly without getting tired...

The ping refers to the time it takes for your computer to send data to another person, and receive the same data back. Kinda like an echo.

Hey, Jutomaki, how bad can fanon be?

Even on a moonless night Rumia can still be found. While she can change the darkness of space around her she cannot remove her physical form. Two tricks will expose her. One: not using light at all and using sound. Two: converging light rays.

Do you play "smoothly" with the controller? That is to make a turn you would do it smoothly like driving a car. On the other hand is the "jagged" approach where you turn a curve into a sequence of secant lines and make several sudden jabs with analog stick to make the curve.

I use the "jagged" approach most of the time and the "smooth" approach sometimes depending on game and conditions. Generally I find the "smooth" approach kind of slow when you need a fast reaction just because you get into a rhythm of slow well-planned responses.


I don't mind the length, it just takes some time to write a response and as they say time is precious. Spoiler if you think its necessary or want to mess with people.

The part I'm not getting, is how to determine the ping between the computers. In order to use adontis, you need to know the ping of the connection.

I always play "smoothly" with a controller. That's how I was raised up, on game systems. It was either that, or only the 4 cardinal directions on whatever game I played.

I don't mind the length either, as long as it's about Touhou; and the time you spent while having fun, be it discussion panel, playing games, or anything, is not really wasted; so I'm fine with that too. Just stick to the rules always, it would help you from being either ignored or quoted by me in non-friendly-manner.

Seriously though, not all fanon are bad, some of them are meant to be jokes anyway. But just like what I said to Rin, misconception among fans is a different tale to tell. In my personal opinion, as long as you are capable to differentiate fanon/canon, then you're fine in my first-step book. That being said, I don't want any newcomers in this club ever misunderstood said basic-of-the-basics concept.

Myouren temple's main target is youkai, right ? If there's anything they feared, it would be those A-class youkai who prefer to be independent than having a group. So, there is really nothing to fear.



Don't you also think that magic is supposed to replace that weapon ? Unlike guns, it's possible to have non-dangerous fun with magics. That, or ZUN just wanted to create a peaceful fantasy world for ones who've forgotten (and been forgotten) the sense of reality where 'fun' exists.

For as far as I know, it's still impossible to see or aware of Koishi's presence unless she reveals her presence by her own. Children can clearly see her simply because they have greater affinity for supernatural phenomena compared to adults.

To everyone who plays with a keyboard: Have you played with more than one keyboard? Did you find one better than the other? For what reasons did you prefer that keyboard? Does the quality of the keyboard matter? Do you have any recommendations?

I'm asking all of these because I'm shopping around for a wired keyboard to play Touhou. My wireless keyboard is fine for Soku, SWR, and IMaP but there is noticeable lag in the danmaku games. The other keyboards I've used are a Lenovo and Dell at work but look like cheap ones that came with their respective desktops. They are both good but I like the feel of the Lenovo better because the keys sit lower. I have a tendency to use light taps so I can move quickly but it means the keys need a short travel to respond. My laptop keys are closely packed so its hard to use them really well. Naturally it would be a waste to spend $50USD on a keyboard when a $10 would be fine.
